Those are a killer cymbal set...all of them.

Super Zyn's can be quite good if you can just find the right ones. You obvioulsy did with those hats.

I've discovered that early Zyns, often marked "STANDARD QUALITY" were actually made of B12. I have bought a couple ( 18" and 13") and they're really interesting. Dark and washy, short and quiet-ish in sound.

The 18" I have is only 1320g and I can ride or crash equally on it....and it wobbles like a jelly!!

Definitely a keeper.

Hi there, I have ended up collecting various Zyn cymbals and my uncle played some of them with his Premier kit in the 60's.

From what I understand there were originally standard quality Zyn stamped ones made from B10 alloy and they are quite rough. They date back to the 40's 50's and were probably the post war Italian POW made ones.

Then we have Super Zyn which is B20 and date from the 50's and 60's, they generally sound great but can be roughly finished. Some of them have some interesting lathe marks too.

During the 60's there was also a ser just stamped Zyn made in England and are made from nickel silver and can be very light and therefore sound quite trashy and poor although my 12 inch hihats make great splash cymbals.

Around 1968 the two star Zyn cymbals came out which are also nickel silver but are better laithed than the previous types and sound better but are still very light and trashy sounding.

Also in 1968 the 5 star Super Zyn came out and was B20 but sound more modern and ran throughout the 70's too. Some of them sound very good and the hi-hats are very desirable as they are good quality finish and tone.

Post 1980 there were some inked Zyn cymbals produced but these were far eastern and generally not of very good quality or sound.

Below is a list of my current collection and happy to fill in any gaps people may wish to ask, they were made to go with Premier and Olympic kits and various weights have been advertised over the years but the ones to look out for are the Super Zyn's as they are very nice sounding and the five stars can be good too with a more modern tone.

Zyn 12 inch Hi Hats nickel silver 400 / 400 g

Zyn 14 inch Hi Hats nickel silver 620 / 620 g

5 star Super Zyn Hi Hats B20 set A 840 / 840 g

5 star Super Zyn Hi Hats B20 set B 820 / 840 g

Super Zyn 15 inch Hi Hats B20 900 / 1030 g

Super Zyn 15 inch crash B20 900 g

Std Quality Zyn 16 inch crash B10 1000 g

2 Star Zyn 16 inch crash nickel silver 930 g

5 star Super Zyn 16 inch crash B20 1220 g

Super Zyn 20 inch ride B20 1820 g

5 star Super Zyn 20 inch crash ride B20 2300 g
