Hey guys, don't forget that Pearl made some Stewart drums possibly before, (during?) and after Star made them.

Check out this thread. I think both of the non-Star badges here are Pearl's Stewarts.

Hey guys,

I have spent the last 15 minutes trying to get decent pictures of my 10 lug Stewart. First, I have to say it's NOT cleaned up yet, and it looks rough! It's actually not as bad as the pictures make it look, but here it is. It has the black oval badge with "Stewart" in script and "World's Supreme Quality" under the grommet hole.

I have also included (poor) pictures of my early 70's Stewarts (that came with a 8 lug snare, not the 10) which have a black oval badge with "Stewart" in script but only says "Made in Japan" under the grommet hole. And lastly there is a shot of my 60's Stewart aqua sparkle snare where the badge is a black oval but as you can see only says "Japan" under the hole.

Hope this doesn't confuse the issue at all. I will try to email clear pics to you Ralf if you would like, please PM me if you do. I also have a set of Coronets that have badges that are not posted on this site, or at least I haven't seen 'em. But that would be a different thread....

Again sorry for the picture quality...

Wayne, the throwoff is exactly like the one on my late 60's Star snare. I have attached pictures of the 10 lugger throw (still a poor pic) it is missing the rod but I assume it's the round rod not the flat bar style. I think this because that's what the Star throw is like, and it's the same down to the knurling on the knob!

I'm guessing the 10 lug snare is from very late 60's or '70 / '71, based on the throw and the badge, but there are others that may be able to render a better guess than me...

If you have a Star strainer, it was built by Star. The one on his drum is also a Star. You can tell by the raised part in the middle.

Your kit is a Star kit, you tell by the Slingy lugs. CORRECTION...SOME of the blue drums are Star. The blue sparkle snare, at least, is a Pearl.

It's difficult to tell by the badge alone from where any of the drums above are coming from.

@skink: don't matter about the quality of the pic of your chrome snare drum. We all know that any pic done with a flash light shows these smallest dust particle on the shell as if the drum is dirty as hell.

Below please find a pic of my DrumMate snare strainer - definitely a Star drum (well, I had to add a new snare lever - built by myself, as the genuine one was missing)! So skink's snare drums in post # 15 are Star's as well.

Ralf - you're right, the picture of my WMP snare is in fact a Star, and is badged as a Star, (and appears to be exactly like yours).

John - if I understand all of the posts, you are also right, as you commented that the aqua sparkle Stewart was made by Pearl, not the WMP drum. I did not post a pic of the strainer on the aqua sparkle Stewart, you ID' it by the lugs

And the original question revolved around the chrome 10 lug Stewart. It has the same throw as the Star, so I am under the impression that its heritage would be Star.(?)

I'm wondering if Wayne is looking into the drum that started this thread, the 10 lugger for $300?
