Almost seems as though someone at Ludwig read that...hmmmm?

Maybe if they used the Bumwrap version of the wrap it would be closer than the stuff made in the traditional way. As a photo of the old wrap it lacks the depth when viewed up close but from a step or two away looks closer than any other OBP wrap made since 1970.

Who knows, maybe they scanned Ringo's actual drum, including the cigarette burn.

This is all fine and dandy but how about just an eight lug 5.5x14 3ply poplar/mahogany shell with a p-85 and knob tone control?

That way they could actually make money by selling a lot of drums at a moderate price.

It won't effect the collector market but will give us the chance to own a reliable recording snare to add to the lineup of the black beauty and superphonic.

Plus Ludwig can actually make money.

I think that is do-able now except for the 5.5" depth. It would be a Legacy mahogany with 8 lugs and the muffler and p84 ordered.

I had been wondering what the reference to cigarette burn mark was about. Now I know. Thanks for that article Mark. But I'm left confused. I thought all the Jazz Festival and other Ludwig snare drums were 5-1/2 inches deep. I didn't realize they had trimmed to 5 inches somewhere along the way.

Thanks for the comment. The problem was that the finish was very flat and the white areas were not pearlescent. They were just plain white. I regret not having Precision do it or even doing it myself. I just didn't chose the right guy on that one. Aside for the wrap issues, it was a very nice set and did have the matching Jazz Festival snare drum. Dave Drew gave me a great deal on the original set, so there was room in the value to allow for the new wrap work. The buyer was very happy so all ended up well.

Jazz festivals were cataloged as being 5" depth but most seem to be a bit over that and a few are 5.5" shells including Ringo's.

A guy can't have one of everything Ludwig. Not enuff space in the barn!

I don't have an AVH drum either.....

I was under the impression that the jazz festival was 5" and the Barrett deems was 5 1/2" after a while you'd get a mix of shells and whatever throw offs and butts they had lying around.

I've owned a 1961 5.5" with a classic strainer and standard butt, and a 1967 5" with the same.

I looked at the ticket prices. $70 for one day? Sorry.
