Right, I see- I just can`t imagine them making a white kit with that totally 60`s styling BUT, with that said, I recently bought a kit with the same 60s styling in simple black wrap. It looks odd to see these in a flat color doesn`t it? Love that nice STAR logo. It`s so modeled directly off of the LUDWIG Club Date just like the Valencia. I really have my eyes out for a nice STAR kit- but I want one with double rows of lugs not the single lug- it hurts the sound quality IMO unless you tune them high.

Guess you could fall in love with this one:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Vintage-Star-Drums-Tama-Ludwig-Premier-Slingerland_W0QQitemZ330386300656QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDrums_Percussion?hash=item4cec8edef0

A 3-pieces-dream in 'Blue Satin Flame'.

Think it will be sold at EUR 300 - 450. PM me if you're really interested in it - perhaps I could be of assistance for you? (It's not too far away from my home to pick it up.)

BTW, I believe that the 'double' lugs are less sound-killing than if a tom is mounted at a bracket. A mount with a RIM-system is always the better idea.

Pictures: yes, please!

It's no easy to determine the year Star started with the round silver badge.

According to Tama's catalogue page, it may have been around 1967, but there is also a big mistake in the sequence of the Star catalogues, so 1967 cannot be taken for 100 % sure.

Acording to the catalogues http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/anniversary/ The round badge pictured below appears on drums from 1967-1972or1973.

I'm looking foward to seeing some pictures of the kit!

As a corollary to the previous post, based on catalogues:

The Star Drum badge appears 1961-63

Swing Star 1965

Star in Red- Rectangular badge 1966-67

And pointier "teardrop" style lug casings introduced in 1967, however the rounder ones continued to be used even up until the change to "Tama" I believe.

Each badge may have been used in other years, but this info helps give a decent estimate of the year of production.

Thank you brother for that clear and detailed ID info. I am searching the Japanese auctions daily for the right STAR kit to aquire. I look forward to that day and posting about it when it happens. Those badges and dates are really helpful.
