Spitfire (Louie Bellson)

This is a Slingerland snare, model "Spitfire", size 5" by 14" with unlaquered brass shell. It is a 12-lugger and has a TDR-strainer, extended snare wires and steel sticksavers.

This original "Slingerland" shell was bought on ebay and then restored with original Slingerland hardware. This NOS shell was never laquered (see explanation below.)

In order to chrome-plate anything it needs to be plated in nickle and then copper first before the chrome plating can be adhered. This "Spitfire" shell never got chrome-plated.

I too love that look. Was the shell already drilled for 12 lugs or was that a choice you made?

Here's where I wish I had a digital camera.I have the same snare with the laquered brass shell.They look as good as they sound.

Yes, I already have two others, but this one sounds best!

My two other "Spitfires" are: 5-ply maple shell with white laquer and the other is brass shell, chromed!

This shell was pre-drilled for 12 "Sound King" lugs when I got it!
