Snare collection so far

Loading...

Hi fellas,

Here's my wall of snares I have collected so far.

From left to right:

Sonor HLD 588, Star Royal King Beat, Star Imperial King Beat parade drum, Star Royal King Beat (different badge and lugs), Tama Imperialstar King Beat (2 5x14 and 1 6.5x14 all from different periods), Tama Impialstar Mastercraft, Tempro snare and Premier Dominion Major.

Not as impressive as some collections I've seen but it's a start.:)

I hope you fellas like it.

Very nice! the mastercraft steel is truly a beast, it has been my main snare for the last few years. Which one do you prefer, the sonor or the tama steel? Also, is there any difference sound-wise with the king-beat snares?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

To Koene: between the Star en Tama King Beat I hear very little difference if any at all. The 6.5 obviously has a different sound due to the depth.

My preference is between the Sonor and the Star, the one right next to the Sonor. But I tend to use the Tama (the fifth from left) more because it's a bit more used of them all, the top hoop is a bit bent unfortunately but nothing major.

I have a bit of issue with the Mastercraft for I think is too sensitive, I noticed that the snares don't lay flat on the entire surfice of the head but they are slightly raised about 2 to 3 inches from the edge. It seems that the rollers are too low but I can't adjust them. Do you have that problem as well?

I don't have any issues with the snares, however, due to the roller action, it's important to use 15" snarewires, and not regular ones. I use pearl free floating wires on mine, and it works perfect!

This is correct:

This is wrong:

So both top ends of the wires may not touch the skin.

Hopefully this will help?

That's a great collection so far! Indeed better than mine! Do you also have Star kits? Do you have the entire Tempro matching kit?

I am a big MIJ fan and advocate.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

To Koene: I still have the original wires, plus I bought 2 Tama wires for the Mastercraft off of ebay. I will test the new wires to see if there's any difference. But thanks for the info.

To Drummerjohn333: I have neither a Star kit nor a Tempro kit, I just have the snares.

But I would love to own a Star kit one day, and a matching Tempro kit

would be nice as well. I love MIJ's, I think some of them are very underrated and underappreciated. :-)

Thanks larryz.

Hey, I'm impressed. Real nice collection. The numbers don't matter. It's all about what you like and what you enjoy looking at and playing.
