Slingerland snare on the way

Loading...

Just grabbed this Slingerland from the interwebs. Should get here soon. Looks complete. I think I see nickel where the paint is worn. Can't wait. I'll post detailed pictures when it arrives and document the (gentle) restoration.

I see Nickel inside so it probably is Nickel plated.

With that throw, that bead, that lug count, I guess late 30's to mid 40's Professional Model.

You'll know that if the shell is Brass like it's supposed to be.

This is my current snare. Slingerland Professional 1930s-40s. I think it's a 6 1/2. The one on the way might be 5". The center bead looks different in the photos. Different hoops, too. Hmm...

The catalog states in some "The New Professional", and mentions hoop change too. I think the one in the picture you put up is earlier, the beads on the earlier's look like yours.

It looks like someone bled on the inside.

Snare arrived the other day. Finally got a chance to start cleaning her up.

Four of the tension rods are bent, but I may be able to straighten them. None of the lugs are cracked.

I'm thinking about keeping the red paint. It was put on a long time ago and has a nice look to it. The shell is 14x5, and I think it's heavier than my other one.
