I went ahead and got the set, it sounded too good to turn down! I was expecting a LOT more resonance from the kick drum, but it was surprisingly balanced with a nice attack. Now, when I say balanced, it was still POWERFUL, exactly what I was looking for.
I'm guessing it was a marching drum, which I don't really mind because that means there are no holes or anything drilled into the drum. I'm going to need to buy some spurs for the kick, any recommendations for some that maybe clamp to the hoops? I might just look for some vintage slingerland ones. But right now, the kick is really sturdy just sitting there, even more so when you attach a pedal to it.
They brought the kit to my studio to test out, so I have a video coming with some good audio. Stay tuned (pun intended)....
I am using a 14x24" marching bass as my kick drum. Of course I drilled it for proper spurs...
Glad you like the drums.
I am not a drummer. I like playing drums, but drummer I am not... This is the first time I've tried to play a set with two floor toms, so as you'll see in the end, it felt really weird.
The audio from the mics kick in when I sit down. It's 4 ribbon microphones going into a nice API preamp, no EQ or compression, just balancing the levels between the 2 room mics and the two overheads.
Also, any good leads on cases for these guys would be appreciated. I'm not going to get anything cheaper then $150 for the 30" am I?
The drums sound pretty good in a big room.
No, you're probably not going to find a case for that kick drum for under $150.
