It's been a while so thought I'd update things a bit. Things have not gone according to plan but not much I can do. I was able to order the hoop clips and T rods I needed. I got a few extras of each. I was going to use the nickle plated hoop clips but DrumFactoryDirect didn't have enough. I thought maybe brass but not enough of those either. Seeing how these are keeping me from playing them I went with the chrome. They will look a little odd perhaps but can deal with those later when DFD is restocked on nickle ones. I borrowed the stick saver hoops from my 60's kit to mock up the 13 and 16 with the new Evans heads I bought. The 13" sounds great with sustain for days. Very fat tuned low too I dig it. The 16" not so much but hopefully better now. The batter side is fine and in round. The reso side was a little out (which I knew) when I bought. There's a 1/16" lowspot in the bearing edge little over 1" long. Sort of C shaped edge to edge. I wanted to get some wood in there before the filler but we decided just some nitro based filler would be the better way to go. Easy to shape and follow the edge contour of the bearing edge. Repair wasn't very deep. It can be easily removed should I want a do over. I'll see how it works. I still have 2 areas about 1/8" out of round each. Not great but not terrible either and head goes on pretty easy.

22" Bass drum is done and sports a clear EQ3 batter side and the original RK calf on the reso. Some say using 1 plastic and 1 calf makes the drum sound strange. Seems fine tuned low, nice and deep. It's so weird this bass only has 6 lugs per side. Wish it had more it would help tuning.

13" tom still needs a diamond plate mount and I need to buy wrap and glue. That'll be a while off still.

Snare.... 50's RK.. I still need the throwoff side clamshell. But did a little shadetree fix and have the new PS extended wires on it. It came with a Premier cast hoop on the batter. I have some old RK parts and put a engraved NOB stick chopper hoop on it for now. Till I can find the NOB sticksaver it should have. Clamshell strainer parts are next to impossible to find!!

I'll get more pics of everything later here's one of the floor tom edge filled with a clear head on it. Stay tuned more to come!!

Im not sure how I missed this thread. You have a very interesting project going on and your doing a great job with it. It has been very usefull for me as my clamshell strainer is bent also. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Jeff there are pretty good gaps between my posts sometimes. And this get shuffled back a few pages. Busy place it is here~! It's been slow progress due to some hard to find parts and the cash to buy them. But it's getting there thanks.

I spent some time thinking (dangerous I know!) about the missing throwoff side of the clamshell strainer I need for my 50's Radio King snare. Looking at the Clamshell strainer section here it shows the War time 42-43 Rolling Bomber using a rosewood and metal CS strainer. I'm going to fab up something like it.

I have the tension side of the CS on my snare to measure off of. My plan is to make a metal base and wood body. I'll call Jim Petty for the other parts I'll need. Repop handles are available from Emory @ Drumatix.com. If I'm thinking right I should be able to make something workable until I can find a actual CS strainer down the road. I'm sure my son has a nice scrap of wood I can use for the body. For the steel bracket I'm using a electrical outlet cover plate for material. And have the tension side bracket and body to measure from.This would be fairly easy to do and only cost is the parts from Jim and Emory. Handles are available but I'll need to check with Jim if his parts are in stock tomorrow. I "think" both the throw and tension side of the CS body and bracket are the same. With only the hardware different for each side. I made a mockup bracket out of thin sheet aluminum and it's a perfect match.

Trying to find one of these strainers has been next to impossible. So until I can round one up this should work ok in the meantime. I'll get some pics once I have some things figured out better. We'll see how it goes!!

Here's a rough mockup on the steel plate and the aluminum one I made up quickly. These are exact measurements per the one I have here and should work ok. This is the bracket that holds the body. Just to give the idea I'm trying to express.
