In the pass i have re-worked and fix the holes by making metal plate's..On the muffler r/k had a metal plate that went on the out-side of the drum next to the shell i used that one with a home made one for the inside of shell...On the strianer i have used small washers on the out-side of drum and also made a metal plate for the inside of drum..both of these made the drum playable...Also on the cracks on the inside fill them in with "RockHard" filler..Agian these things will make the drum playable again...Mikey

Could I suggest you maybe make some short vids of what you are doing with this repair? I have found they are so much easier for others to follow. I have been hit from all over the world on my repair vids. I have a trail of subscriptions from every continent now. It is so much more reliable than pictures. We must remember something: people are losing the valuable skills of woodworking. 50 years, we were taught it as a matter of course in school. Today, few schools even offer wood and metal shops. Computer labs have taken the place of wood shop.

Even the most metropolitan man knew the basics, just 3 generations ago, when we were kids....Oh God...I'm my grandpa.....

Hey Jonni - I'll try to do my best. Heck, you see with most of my posts I'm not even very good about progress pics. Most of my stuff is, here is the drum before annnnnnnd here it is after. LOL

I don't know how many times I've said, "Mr. Guerrero would be proud." (my woodshop teacher.)

My kiddo helps me with most of the projects with one task or another and I'm slowly giving him more and more of the thinking parts of projects. He has 2 drums that he bought with his own money that he's restoring and putting on ebay. Early 70's black vistalite 6.5x14 and a 63 BDP student model Slingy. Trying to teach him how to make a buck because most of the kid jobs are gone these days.

Yeah...check this out though...if you tell him you want to experiment with making some videos for the repairs to put on your youtube, he will make them so technical, or least entertaining, and you won.'t have to worry about it. Mine is only 9 and loves to make videos. However, you son is very talented. I only hope mine takes an interest in some of the instruments around the house. Flute, pianos, guitars, drums, harmonicas...did I miss anything?
