They have the metal tom mounts with the holes, and natural wood inside. Not the paint.

That's a really cool set. I'm sure they will look and sound beautiful when they get cleaned up.

We all have that same sickness. And it's better to as for forgiveness than permission when dealing with the wife.

I was going to sell one of my kits this past week and every offer kept trying to get extra hardware or cymbals and pay less money.

If an add is for a shell pack that's all I'm selling. The price doesn't include free cymbals and hardware for your lowball offer.

Sorry about the rant.

I say find a big fat snare for that kit and rock it!

I have almost everything I need to get the set playable as a four piece. Got all the spur mounts functional with matching bolts. Of the four floor Tom leg mounts, three have a insert that have matching bolts and one it looks like the insert for the bolt came out. I have been to Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware with no luck. No one seems to have a clue, if you can find anyone that works in there. The 18" tom won't stand without the fourth leg. I can get another mount but was hoping to get that fourth one fixed like the other three. So with the 14"x24" Bass and 18" floor, should I go with the 13" or 14" as a up tom if I play it as a four piece ? I will probably use this as my outside gig beater set, even though it is in good shape. See in the pic how the lower mount was drilled to take a insert, and the other was drilled for one too, just missing. Where can I find something like that. Just trying to get it decently workable right now without having to buy another mount. Now I am looking at something called a Heli-coil thread repar Kit, and from what I am seeing that is what has been used in the other three mounts. The little insert coils that take the bolt. Auto parts store item. Just got back from Advanced Auto Parts and a heli coil insert was definately used on the three other mounts. The thing is the kit cost $30 and I can get another mount for less than that. Why would the people at Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace hardware not know about something like this ? Going to give a shout out to my local friends on facebook if anyone already has the little tool and coils and will fix it for me.

Shells all cleaned up. Slight fade on the top of the bass drum. Going to try some Meguires PlastX.

Try an "insert nut". Sleeve with interior threads.

HD has them.

Check thread size of your bolt to match.

The inserts are meant to be threaded or pounded into wood.

Then a bolt can be threaded into them.

So they have barbs/threads on the side to grab the wood.

Cut one to length as needed. (grinder/hack saw and vise grips)

Grind/file down the threads on the outer side (belt sander/grinder) until insert will fit snugly into hole in mount.

Then carefully tap insert with a hammer and block of wood into mount hole.

It might work.

I have been working on the set, and have three playable with the lugs and parts that I got with them.. Got the bass drum spur mounts situated and sturdy. Hoops painted. Spent my day off yesterday cleaning lugs, rims, and assembling. Love these rock maple shells. I cleaned and put the original batter heads on the 18' and 14'. I like Ambassadors better but they sound good enough to play immediately. Had the bass heads too from my spare bin. Not crazy about the pinstripe's either but not going to buy what I like this week as I am going to take them out Sat. afternoon to a outdoor festival I am playing with "The Ladies Of Soul". I chose the 14" as a up tom since I had the heads for them and left the mounts off the bass drum and 14". The holes in the top of the bass give it a little air release anyway. I feel they will sound better with different heads but dealing with what I have instead of spending any money right now. That 18" floor tom is a beast ! I usually do not play a set consisting of these large drums but its outside and I want to pound on them once real good and see how they hold up. You can see the 13' and 15' in the background. I need 26 lugs to finish those.
