Shallow sized Premier?

Also, just quickly. What on earth are these holes from? Can't think of their use and no hardware that came with the kit is for it. Are they just really shoddy air vents without any metal rims?

Sorry for that absolutely bombardment of questions guys. You are SO HELPFUL!

They are for mufflers, like these, which would have come with the kit.

I was in fact thinking it was this kit and snare/. They seem to resemble them the most as they have the same badges and the bass drum has the T mount. I marching snares are 14 x 12" and the Kit is 22 x 14", 12 x 8", 14 x 8" & 16 x 15" with no snare.

The red B303 kit - I owned one at 15. Every time I see a picture of it I wish I still had it. Those drums had the best chrome and wrap I've ever seen. Believe it or not; I was one year away from turning pro (in those days you could leave school at 16) I went to the city and traded them for a white Rogers kit, since by this time I had developed a severe Harvey Mason addiction. Great drums.

I had developed a severe Harvey Mason addiction. .

My first real quality kit was the red Gretsch kit that was in the ads in Modern Drummer for years, with Harvey Mason playing it. The 20,10,12,14 one with the 10" that's too shallow for parallel lugs. It was pretty expensive in '83 and my dad wasn't sure he'd buy it, but my mom (bless her soul) took my dad outside the store & had a chat with him. I don,t know what she said but they bought me the kit.I wish I still had it!

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare

+1 on Premier quality. Very underrated drums. Nice shells, killer chrome work and the coolest design aesthetic.

Amazing. I can't believe WHAT a kit I've got hold of here. Thank you guys for your help and enthusiasm.

I've decided that I'm going to be taking the wraps off all the drums as they've been badly looked after and, well, disrespected in my opinion (sticker & marker pen crud).

So on that point, I need to get the vents out of the badges and shells. I understand this can be done quite simply by using a drill bit or file. However the vents on these are 1/4" and fit the hole in the P perfectly. I'm not even sure if I can replace them or not?

Any thoughts?

Thank you so much! One of the drums actually has "Internatioanal size" written on it. I've tried 14" Evans G1, Pearl and Premier owns makes, a Remo Ambassador and Emperor and they fit the marching drums and the 14" tom. Does this mean that they are in fact all international sizes? I've had an old 14" x 5.5" Olympic (same badge as the marching snare drums) and I've never had a problem fitting any heads to it. Sorry, that picture link doesn't seem to work either. Do you have any other examples? Sorry, I can't believe I thought they were from congas!Thank you so much : D

14" from the sixties and later are always International. If you go back to the thirties and a little later, you might find snares that are smaller.

The 12 and 16" are the big question - and 10" were the last to go International (around 1982!).

Here is an old catalogue picture:

You can see the small claws/hooks gripping the hoop.

As you have decided to strip the coating off the shells, you might like to know that the mahogany is very well suited to sanding with ever finer sandpapers until smooth - and then being treated with coatings of oil.

Brings out a nice glow in the wood - and sounds even better than coated shells, as the wood is free to vibrate.

I'm having a lot of problem getting the wrap off the drums. It seems the wrap is stuck to the shells the whole way round with adhesive as apposed to just at the ends of the wrap.

What would be the best way of getting it off without damaging the wood/ leaving residue on the shell?
