Rogers snare - Worth it?

Loading...

I think $200 you can't go wrong unless it's a forgery and then $200 for a snare ain't bad.

Any way to get pictures of it? If you get it I would like to see some pics myself.

Funny thing is... while I was looking the drum over, I thought "hmmm... maybe I should snap a few pictures with my phone, just in case" - DOH!!

If I make the trip back to see it again, I'll likely just buy it. Even if the hoops, clips and tension rods are not original, the shell and lugs are likely worth the $200.00.

Of course I'll post some pics here. Maybe with some pictures, we can figure out the mystery.

I see no reason why someone would try and pass off an 8 lug Tower or other model for a Luxor. Clearly, the other models are worth more. If it's a forgery, then the shell would probably not even be a Rogers. If that's the case, then wouldn't their be some extra holes or some other sign of tampering?

Why go through all that trouble for a fake Luxor?

*UPDATE* I went to purchase the drum today and I want to apologize for getting everyone (myself included ) all excited - LOL!!! The drum IS a Luxor, 6 lug drum, all original except for the snare wires. I realized after I got in there why I thought the drum was an 8 lug... because there was another vintage 8 Lug with single flange hoops and clips right next to it (not a Rogers though).

So again, my apologies for the stupid mistake I made.

The good news is that the drum appears original and in excellent shape, and I still may buy it. It's on consignment and I made an offer of $175.00 - They are contacting the seller and I should know in a day or two if he'll take my offer.

I figure $175.00 makes it a good deal and a cheap way for me to get my foot in the Rogers collecting door.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and info. I know now that I have to be very careful when looking these things over and when in doubt, snap a few pictures, seeing as how the ol' memory is failing me nowdays!

I.d say Luxors are worth 200 on a good day.Nice reliable drum with a very vintage sound.Dont expect it to sound like an 8 or 10 lugger though.

Hit like you mean it!!

Hello! i am Paco,and i live in Sweden,and i became a member today!

Very interesting article. I bought a eight lugged Beavertail Luxor on Ebay two days ago,and my snare must be a factory tag mistake. This snare HAS eight lugs, and a Luxor tag.I studied the detailed pictures for several minutes before i decided to hit the buy it now. The price was decent, compared to how much some sellers ask for Tower or Powertone snares.. I have pictures of the snare, but i havenĀ“t figured out how to post them here.Greetings from Sweden,Paco.
