Rogers Red Onyx resto/ clean up

I'm looking forward to seeing them when they're done. Rogers red onyx is one did my favourite finishes.

Wow! She's a beauty! All the Rogers up for grabs in my area right now are new england white, grey mist or other such utilitarian colours. Red Onyx to me is way more exciting and classy. Nice documentation of your work too. I can almost smell the Ultra Dawn Clapping Happy2

I picked up this Dayton era Red Onyx 12,13,16,22 set recently and thought it would be nice to share my progress as I go cleaning these up and getting them ready to play again. They really don't need much more than a good detailing, but the bass drum hoops are both split at the seams so I will start with those first.Here we go!I was able to remove all tacks and inlays without any issues. WHEW!

I have aquestion for you on the Novus #1 product. What is the

consistancy of this product. I'm currently restoring Fibes clear

acrylic shells, using Novus #2. Is there any "grit" to #1??

The Red Onyx are looking great, by the way.

Thanks for the compliments!

Novus 1 is a clear spray liquid. I do not believe it has any abrasives in it, but that is an assumption on my part.

I was able to do some polishing and assembly today between some other projects I have going and so far, I am very happy with the results.I can't wait to refinish the hoops this week and see the bass drum complete! Not going to rush though, I want to give the glue on the repair plenty of time to set up.The chrome and wrap on these looks almost new. There was only one scratch unfortunately on top of the bass shell that I can't get out. Luckily, this pattern hides it well.

Well, I was able to accomplish finishing up on the bass drum this weekend

between some other projects around the house. Bass drum hoops are painted, inlay polished and re-installed. My repairs on the cracked hoops are visible if you look hard but still way better than what I started with, so I'm happy with that. I also got the original heads to clean up pretty well. I tried a mix of Dawn soap water and baking soda for an abrasive on the dirty heads and it really worked well.
