Rhythm Tech Active Snare System

I also bought one of these for a dyna that had no snare frame. It was just ok so I hunted down a frame and wires and what an improvement! The dyna-sonic frame has it all.

Since I already invested in the Rhythm-tech I tried it on all my other snares and couldn't stand it until I used it on a birch shell sonic-plus 14x6.5 and it found a permanent home. No buzz, and really brought out a woody sound in that snare that I couldn't find with standard wires.

I guess I got lucky and found a use for it.

Today, I decided to clean up a lot of my old snare related stuff from the appropriate storage drawer. I then came across a Rhythm Tech Active Snare System. I had started a post about this months ago. Like most on the forum, I agreed the system was garbage! I then asked myself why. Plastic!!! The first step I set out to do was to cut off/grind down the weak plastic tabs which held the snare wires in place. Once that was accomplished, I used Gorilla Glue clear to secure appropriate sized washers to the snare base. Next, I soldered small nuts to the washers. Basically, the plastic tabs are now metal. A couple of small bolts should secure it to the metal frame. I'll try it on a couple of different snares out tomorrow. I'm not expecting a "poor man's" Dynosonic system. I just had some time and wanted to experiment. We'll see.

Thanks for your input, gentlemen. Everything seems to be holding together but, there are a couple of improvements I have in my mind. One is installing a set of Puresound Equalizer wires. I hope I have a set somewhere because, as you know, they are a bit pricey. We'll see. The important thing is that I enjoy tinkering around with all things percussion!

I installed this snare system on my 2 most played snares and love them. One on my 6.5" black beauty and the other on a 5" maple Ludwig. Can't live without the Rhythm tech system.

I am looking at the picture of them but I don't really understand what it is they are supposed to do.... It appears to just be a frame that puts the wires under tension BEFORE they are engaged with the bottom head....right? What is the advantage of doing that?

O-Lugs!

The Rhythm Tech wires are just like the Dynasonic snare frame, in that the wires are pre-tensioned and don't require much tension from the strainer to obtain a non-choked snare sound. Make sense?

Years ago I got one for a dyna before replacement wires were available, I found that I had to tension the wires so tight that I choked the drum trying to to get any snare response,I tried it on a couple other snares, same result.Ymmv.
