I have one. Tried it on a few snares. It's crispy and sensitive.
Thanks Brian
I participate on a number of forums and usually it seems like the new guy gets beat-up on. Like you say, it's just my opinion and others are welcome to have theirs.
Btw ... While I don't use this drum all the time, the snares have been on it since 1998 :D
what is supposed to be the advantage to using them? I really have no idea..

If you want a Dyna-Sonic, ... buy a Dyna-Sonic.
If you don't know what a Dyna-Sonic ought to sound like, one of those things might tickle your happy place. If you have low expectations of what good should sound like.
I am voting in the "No way, no how" column.

That is precisely why I bought them in the first place! When I saw how much they resembled the Rogers snare set-up I thought to myself, maybe I can get a nice crisp response out of them. I was badly disappointed to find out that they either buzz like mad, or dry out because there is no in-between with them. Loosen them up, they buzz. Tighten them up and it dries out the drum. I kept looking for that 'happy medium' where they would work as advertized, but I never found it. I tried the buggers on three other snares with the same disappointing results. That's why I gave them a thumbs down when Brian asked. There is a 'reason' why I don't like them. Like Mike, I don't quite get what it is they are supposed to do. As replacement snares, they truly do suck.

PS - dboomer - This is VDF, you're not going to be flamed or verbally assaulted simply for expressing your opinion. Whether the opinion goes with the herd or not, it is your opinion and you are as entitled to express it as any of us. If anybody ever did get on your case for a simple expression of opinion, I think you'd find more defenders coming to your aid than maybe you'd expect. Besides, if someone makes an ugly comment, you can always choose not to 'feed it' by ignoring it and not giving the poster the negative attention he/she was looking for in the first place. Good bunch of guys here. I hope you feel welcomed to be here and not paranoid about being flamed. Speak freely always.

dboomer:
John is absolutely right! This is why I admire and respect him so much on the Forum! He can give an opinion but, at the same time respect one which is contrary to his own beliefs. Most of the people here are like that. There is a good "bunch of guys" here. Assimilate the positive and ignore the very rare negative. Glad you're here. sir!

Brian - I am touched by your always kind compliments, but you don't have to 'sell me' to anybody. The bottom line is, people will make up their own minds about me one way or another based either on what I contribute to the forum, or as in some instances, reasons and projections that exist only within the parameters of their own mind.
Thanks for the kind words.

I've found the Rhythm Tech Active Snare System to work well as a substitute for a missing Dynasonic rail. The proof was when I assembled a custom Dynasonic from parts on hand. We all know that using "normal" snare wires on a drum with no beds introduces lots of buzzing, which is exactly what I got! After installing the RTASS unit, the drum sound very good! Honestly, though, this is about the only shell I'd use the Rhythm Tech on.

I've experimented with the Rhythm Tech Active Snares on a variety of snares (1963 Jazz Festival, 2002 Black Beauty, 1959 Ludwig Marching Snare, 1950s Gretsch Marching Snare). I found that they were good on some snare drums with some head combinations, and not on others. They seem to be good on the Marching Snares (both also have tall wooden rims with clips and are 10" deep shells), but that's probably outside the range of what you are wanting to put them on.
