Rewrapping vintage Ludwig with Tolex ?

Loading...

I once purchased a 400 Supraphonic from a pawnshop. Scored it for very cheap because it was wrapped in this Godawful black tolex. I'm sure it can be done to look nice but I can't get the image of that poor, neglected Supra out of my head.

Hello Gentlemen..

Thanks to all for the very informative responses.. This is a player's kit, so i'm not too concerned with possibly ruining the shells, however i don't want to scrap them entirely either. I think that i will be using the gluing method for adhesion, as it seems to be the best way to wrap this type of wrap to a drum without deadening the tone and resonance of the shell. Now, it's all a matter of which glue to use.. I'm in Canada, so i'm not sure if all of the previously mentioned adhesives will be available.. I will ask the guy i'm buying the Tolex from, which adhesive he uses and just go with that.. I'm sure he's worked with all types of species of wood furniture, and will no doubt give me the best option for this type of project..

From Starship Krupa

Before you set your heart on a specific vinyl wrap, check out the sparkle vinyl MutantMozart mentioned.I've used it and it looks great.I have a rescue MIJ bass drum to wrap and I'll look into that "landau" adhesive. Have used Scotch 70 spray adhesive to good effect.

I am going to agree with Starship Krupa; Mutant Mozart has some really good prices on Sparkel Vinyl and I think you will really like he results a lot better.
