talk about an awkward silence..
like i said it may take a while but i fully intend to. a part here a part there to keep the sting of prices down. the only thing im really looking for at the moment is the correct throw for that snare. its all out of whack. not tuned properly in the slightest.. and still sounds amazing! cant wait to find the time to dig into it with a key and a pair of sticks and see how she really sounds.
well you guys sure know how to make a fellow feel proud of some beat up old drums. all drums are out of round. the 13 is the one that's a 1/4 out. I actually love the look of the wraps but figured it was completely fried. after handling them again today it looks like just a lot of regluing. im not really concerned about them being anyting more than a players kit. im in it to see how they sound and to give a hand at preserving something that deserves it as best I can. it may be a while till I get to them but I think you have convinced me to make room and keep them around. thanks for the knowledge and suggestions.what are the chances of saving fairly bent hoops? a little back story.. the seller said that he was given these drums for his son to play some 15+ years ago. it had no cymbals. when he went to price some he was overwhelmed and just brought his kid home a full set of cb's which also came with them. other than the batter heads those almost look new. I also got most of a slinger hi hat circa 60s-70s, a few bass pedals and random hardware too. when I was loading them he told me he thought of burning them just to get them out of the way so he could redo his basement.. this is how they were listed on craigslist'2 drum sets LUDWIG & cb - $100.'"Three base pedals and other hardware. First One hundred dollars takes it all."
I've run into this twice before the look on my face spoke volumes to both of the sellers, they asked me why the look of horror I told them they are great drums not letting them know they had a professional kit, one of the sellers told me he had burnt about 50 marching shells?? WTF !??
Here are mine. They are awesome drums! Save em! Im looking for a bigger bass drum....24 or ideally 26, but for now I have a 20.

I'm glad everyone said keep the wrap [including yourself], as that was my first thought too. Absolutely wonderful set of Slingerland drums you got there for little dough!
Feel free to burn the CB's though...:)

I'm there with my RK's.The bass was cut down from 26" to 22". The lacquer's getting brittle. Just cleaned them up and did what I can with them. They've become my favorite set. And I've got some really drool worthy drums. Getting most of the gigs. just warm, easy to tune, and make you smile when you play them. I've using Fiberskins, They are tight on the 14". Probably go to American Vintage next set. You might want to take them with you when you buy heads......[IMG]http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad173/wdonley/IMG_1181-1.jpg[/IMG]
The hardware can certainly be costly but slowly and surely it will come back together. I just want to own one radio king drum. A whole 40s Rk kit in a cl find? You are lucky. Save em
Come to think of it, my set was a CL bargain, also. The cutdown bass drum scared people off. It sounds great!
Use generic t's and claws to help keep it down restoring them. Just get them together. Then, watch for the rims, at least, at your leisure. I do think the heavy brass RK rims will probably make a difference sonically. Claws and rods, not really. Sell off whatever you use while you're shopping for parts. Get that set together and try it. You'll probably find it better then hoped for.
Top notch!!
I have some un-polished chrome lugs. Pretty close match to yours.
Out of town till wed. PM your address and how many you need.
Crappy in progress pic of a couple of mine.
Thanks for your pictures. Big help seeing original assembly.

What is it about these drums, anyway? They really grow on you. The warm round tone, the tunability. Just a truly great set! Much less fussy about tuning then my Gretsch. I'm thinking of getting rid of all but the RK's and my Hip Gigs. Nothing I do that I couldn't cover with them....[ame]http://youtu.be/n7i7GJpUo8A[/ame]
