what have I got myself into here? are they worth saving or do I just have parts? 13-16-24. slightly out of round.. as much as a 1/4 inch. needs t's, claws, wrap, 1 lug maybe more, all hoops, bunch of tension rods, has added late 60s Ludwig hardware on the bass.. im probably missing a few things. would love to find out more about them. what era are they? the big 3 part question I have is about what would they be worth now as apposed to at least playable drums and around what would it cost me to get there using correct parts? ive already saved them from a potential fire pit.. id like to go further if I can. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Certainly worth saving if you can. They'll sound fantastic. I like the real aged gold sparkle wrap. I'd rather see that then a re wrap/strip job. It's tucked into the seam. Cloud badge, thick re rings. Does not get much better sound wise! Will never be mint but a awesome players kit if put back together. The word written inside would be "chrome". Looks to be 40's badge on the bass. Little OOR can be fixed. Parts can be pricey but if you shop you can find some deals. Nice save and score there!! Kelly (Rims n skins) has some lugs and a 13" hoop for sale here. Someone was selling bass T's and claws here not too long ago too. Take a look in the FS section a few pages ++. Oh sorry no help on the snare. Sure the L&L guys can help you there. My RK's are a franken kit but some of the best sounding drums I've ever had.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I'll start with the snare drum it is a standard model snare drum you'll need the standard throwoff, with the RK's which drum is out of round? or drums? also they are 1940's models. theis kit is a players kit due to the mods on the bass drum, tom and snare drum, the floor tom leg mounts don't have the correct tension handles on them, the other parts you need will probably be costly great kit save it, I would just leave the wrap and use this ole girl to play.
The snare is a Leedy&Ludwig...early 50's broadway model I think ,when Conn merged both companies in stead of having two.Still great drums, and this was shortly before WFL,bought back the Ludwig name, and Slingerland bought the Leedy Name. Those shells can be put back in round using nylon straps and steam bending, and gradualy. The usual tollerance is 1/8 of an inch,so you're not that far off.
As has been said,it's a players kit,but they will soung great.

It's not uncommon to find these slightly out of round. Calf skin heads I believe were applied wet.
well you guys sure know how to make a fellow feel proud of some beat up old drums. all drums are out of round. the 13 is the one that's a 1/4 out. I actually love the look of the wraps but figured it was completely fried. after handling them again today it looks like just a lot of regluing. im not really concerned about them being anyting more than a players kit. im in it to see how they sound and to give a hand at preserving something that deserves it as best I can. it may be a while till I get to them but I think you have convinced me to make room and keep them around. thanks for the knowledge and suggestions.
what are the chances of saving fairly bent hoops?
a little back story.. the seller said that he was given these drums for his son to play some 15+ years ago. it had no cymbals. when he went to price some he was overwhelmed and just brought his kid home a full set of cb's which also came with them. other than the batter heads those almost look new. I also got most of a slinger hi hat circa 60s-70s, a few bass pedals and random hardware too. when I was loading them he told me he thought of burning them just to get them out of the way so he could redo his basement..
this is how they were listed on craigslist
'2 drum sets LUDWIG & cb - $100.'
"Three base pedals and other hardware.
First One hundred dollars takes it all."
