So, do you still like those damn things? Did this churchly hootenanny group really need to punish the drummer like this?
Putting Drummers in Plexiglass Cages
As a drummer, the open ones weren't bad but the closed in ones were horrible.
As a sound engineer, they work well and really help the drums from bleeding over into every other mic and drowning them out.
As a former worship band member and christian, I'm not surprised that it took someone so long to try and help the drummer and that only one or two people made a move to help, in fact the leader just jokes about it at the end without budging to see if the drummers OK.

Hulaktt, your last paragraph seems to indicate that you are a FORMER worship band member for some very good reasons. Or, am I misinterpreting what you meant to imply? This video shows us what the folky girls' group from That Thing You Do ended up doing after losing the talent contest at Mercyhurst College.
I have never seen buddy rich, gene krupa, louis bellson ,Joe morello behind one, but they all had over head Mike,s, and excellent dynamic,s.just my2 cent
Instead of a plastic cage, I use another device to keep from bleeding through the other mics or being too loud........................DYNAMICS!

Yes. I worked in churches doing a lot of AV/tech work for years and was very involved in worship bands at a few camps and several churches for years. I built sound systems and trained people to run them. I played drums, bass and guitar for countless services and did a lot of production work and design to bring services and special events to life.
In the end, I was unceremoniously tossed out on my ass and largely excommunicated. None of the friends I had made in those years were told anything and very, very few ever reached out to me or tried to contact me in any way again.
I worked full time for a large church or years doing all their IT and tech stuff so I knew all the staff's dirty little secrets. One day, the head pastor just decided I knew too much and fired my whole department. I hear he finally was found out and driven out of the state.

Churches want all the thrill of live music but are absolutely terrified of volume. They want a full and live band but at the volume and consistency of listening to a CD in a coffee shop. I worked with worship leaders who would lose their **** trying so desperately to sound "just like the CD".
I worked with a few really good ones too but they were the smaller group.

What did the pastor do that was so terrible ?
I found out he was drawing multiple salaries from the church, he was forcing the missions leader to push a third of the missions budget to a mission he was on the board for (and drawing another salary from) and he was manipulating the board of directors of the semi autonomous but affiliated preschool to financially incorporate into the church so he could have control over their budget too.
Just a really greedy bugger with expensive tastes.
He was also all about "the Big Show" for services and was intolerant of any mistakes, doubly so if they made him look anything less than 110%. His own son called him the "rock star" behind his back.
I saw and knew a lot of really good and genuine people at churches. I saw and knew even more who... weren't. Especially in positions of power.
