Psychedelic Stars way cool but hurting

Loading...

I first posted these old psychedelic Star shells

over on the Star pointy lug thread

since they do have the pointy Sonor clone lugs

ole' Fishwaltz liked them and asked me to start another thread for them

and so here it is

I found the bass drum and floor tom shells today

and while they are in poor condition especially the floor tom

I sure had never seen the wrap before ...and was wondering if anyone else has?

Hi Kenwood!

Yes, there is another one - on German feebay:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/331048751749?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

But this one has the later, Slingy-type lugs.

The ad is from the same dealer I got my Yammies from about three years ago (as can be seen in my thread "should I go for this?").

He´s been trying to sell this for ages, but I think the price (490,-Euros) he´s asking is way too high - due to the fact that the snare´s missing... and the rail consolette tom holder is a pain in the a**, if you try to fix both toms...

Some pics for the history also added;)

Hello Lissy

Thanks very much first and foremost for the reply

and also for the pictures and link for that great looking Star psych kit

from across the big pond

It is interesting that was drilled and lugged with the more common Slingerland copy lugs

Boy would I love to have just one of those double mounted toms in that color

of course my hands will be full trying to re-hab the two shells I have

I will need some harvested wrap material from another distressed psychedelic wrapped drum hehe ..YEAH SURE...maybe I can have it flown in by a unicorn ..Thanks again pal..Kenwood

HA! Yup, a unicorn pooping rainbows!

Thanks for starting this thread! As you go through this kit, post pic's so we can all revel in your restoration. I'm sure that wrap is fragile, but you'll be amazed what you can do with cleaning and large amounts of paste wax.

Do you have the rack tom?

Hey Kenwood,

Here is a pic of my psych kit. It is a Stewart with the other style lugs, but likely the same wrap as your Star kit.

I have been looking forever.... well, years anyway.... for a kick hoop with the matching wrap inlay. As you can see in the photo, I only have one.

Yours is one of the few other MIJ kits with the pysch wraps that I have seen. I love the wrap! I heard someone call it "frog in a blender" and that seems appropriate. I think it is actually called pyschadelic lava pearl.

Good luck with your drums,

Bryan

Hello Bryan,

You're astonishing me ... Really beautiful further Star kits you have!

As it seems to be a lifelong task to find an insert for your bass drum hoop, I'd solve the prob with making a copy of the wrap (rolling the blank shell over the copying unit during the process) and cover the sheet with a plastic adhesive foil before putting it onto the hoop.

And did you check this source out as well?

Cheers, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the link. I have seen similar wraps before from other sources. All of the Ludwig-type wrap copies are always "tighter" than the Star wraps which seem to have much wider colour bands.

I have considered using the newer wrap since it is only for the kick hoop insert and it would probably blend pretty well, but I guess I am an eternal optimist.... there has to be one out there for me to stumble across and purchase! (If anyone knows where it is, let me know!)

I also have a recurring dream where I find a matching snare drum!!

Thanks for your kind comments, PM sent
