Premier Olympic 60's, good buy?

Loading...

Hello everyone,

in a flea market I found a Premier Olympic (made in England) sale in excellent condition (still with original leather), which according to my research (color and plate) should have been produced between 1961 and 1969. The dealer sells it to 250 euros (approx 315 $). I wanted to know if anyone had any more information about Olympic and if the asked price would be interesting to start a collection of vintage drums. Important: The set consists of mechanical, hihat and ride zyn made in england, tom, floor tom, bass drum (the snare is missing). thanks for any help!

Hi,

Olympic was the low budget line of Premier. Zyn cymbals come up often on ebay UK and are also not high-end.

You given information is not enough to judge about the price:

- Which finish is it?

- Any issues on repairing it/ missing parts?

- Is a bass drum pedal included?

- Any further hardware (stands) included?

- Is a pic available?

More valuable for start collecting drums are complete kits including also the matching snare drum.

Even more valuable are the early Premier's.

The olympics were premiers budget line, same shells as premiers, same lugs and hardware, just less lugs and triple flange rims instead of die cast,if the kit is in good condition and and original that sounds like a fair price to me.

Olympics are good shells, and the price is probably right.

On the other hand, the diecast rims on Premiers are a real delight, and from time to time you can get nice Premiers at a price about the same.

I´d prefer them any day....but then again, I am addicted!

Ok, what I can see:

- internal muffler at the bass drum (1st pic): missing,

- one (only one?) of the T-rods (3rd pic): substitution,

- bass drum pedal of 'Hollywood', not Olympic, should be replaced by an 'Olympic' one (remember: you're starting a collection ...).

The muffler and the T-rods (mainly sold on ebay in packs of 6 or 8, not single ones): price comes up on each approx. GBP 10 to 20, genuine pedal another 15.

So finely you'll pay EUR 300 (approx.) for a refurbished set.

Too much.:2Cents:

Follow Jon Petersen: a Premier at similar a price would be the better choice.

looks like the snare is a mij,one bass drum hoop is missing an inlay,or is unoriginal.Premiers clean up nicely, and I don't know what resale value is like where you are on premier, but for two drums that need parts I don't think I would pay more than 200.00 U.S.

Hi. Here in the UK we see a lot more olympics, and you can usually pick them up quite cheap. Obviously, they are more scarce outside the UK, so prices will go up. As an Olympic owner, I can say the shells are first rate birch shells, but I'd follow the advice of others and hold off until you see a set with a snare for a similar price. Either that or offer 175 euro for the lot!

When buying job lots like this however, you can sometimes make some cash back by selling parts on. So if you did get the kit at a slightly reduced rate, I'd recommend selling the Hollywood pedal, snare and zyns separately to get a bit of cash back, then keep your eye open for a snare.

thanks for all your answers, i think that my set should be look like this one:

in italy olympic drums are rare, so the price is higher than uk, but i think that i'll bargain the price around 180-200 euros.

i'll look in ebay.co.uk to find the missing or uncorrect parts.

tnx everybody!
