Premier 303 saved from oblivion

I got this 70s Grey shimmer 303 kit as part of a load of stuff. These 3 drums (missing the 13") were the only things of value and they were in a bad state to look at. However, they were mainly complete and under the dirt and crud, not too bad.

Replacement mufflers from Blairndrums have been fitted. I have the tom mount but need an L arm and the one I bought won't fitDOH. These are the 3 ply mahogany shells which I adore. I have polished the inside ply with a beeswax polish which gets them looking spectacular - for the inside of a drum at least. The snare, cymbals and hardware in the photos are from my 202 kit.

I'd love to keep them but I don't have the space so have tentatively sold them to a friend locally. No money made or lost but a great kit saved.

They look superb from where I`m sitting!!

Saving these old drums for future generations to enjoy is what it`s all about...Kudos to you Fayray!! I bet your friend is happy and I`m sure you have a great sense of satisfaction for bringing this kit back to it`s former glory...

Cheers

thanks Granto. It definitely had to be saved. A kit like this could do a serious drummer for life. They're that good.

thanks for the compliments. It turned out very well and will make a great players kit. I sold it yesterday to a buddy of mine and he's very happy. It cost him roughly a quarter what you'd pay for a similar Ludwig kit here and it's every bit as good.

From Fayray

I got this 70s Grey shimmer 303 kit as part of a load of stuff. These 3 drums (missing the 13") ...

My '303 Outfit' dates a bit earlier but consists of 12/14/16 toms. No 13 incher.

But I have the earlier tom brackets. Perhaps Prem produced a 13" for the version with the L-arms?

Great job, Fayray! So it's prepared now for being played again in the next 4 decades - or even more.

Awesome job. Premier had some great looking wraps. The "Shimmers" being one of my favorites. Next to Mahogany. :) Those thin 3-ply shells just sing. In my opinion, Premier kits are the "sleepers" of vintage drums. The attention to detail and styling (art deco hardware) make them the Royls Royce of drums. Good if you are in the market to buy, but bad if youare trying to sell.
