Saw this article about providing vintage drums for the Tom Hanks movie 'That Thing You Do'; pretty cool looking 'vintage' kits in the movie. Thomas Everett Scott did a great job as the drummer though he'd never played at all before being cast in the movie. It's definitely not Citizen Kane, but not a complete waste of 90 minutes either.

That's awesome man. I still don't know why they couldn't use actual vintage kits. I've seem some pics of kits that look like they just came from the factory.

I watched the movie today - good movie, thanks for mentioning it here. I will have to go back and check out the Gold Sparkle kit a little more. The badge appears to be Slingerland(?) through most of the first part of the show and then when he's playing the kit later...there is definately a Round Badge on the floor tom. Nice WMP kit too. I enjoyed the movie. Ya....band dynamics...been there.....minus the fame of course.

Hadn't heard Aaronoff was in it, but Alphonse Mouzon was the jazz trio drummer and had a decent solo cameo. Tom Hanks actually wrote some of the music used in the film, which in my opinion was really well done and period correct. Not too many movies I can think of where the drummer was actually considered the brains of the outfit either!
Glad to see so many others check out the kits in movies to see if they are authentic. I remember seeing Detroit Rock City in the theater and immediately noticing that the crashes are Z or Z Custom (its been a few years) in a scene thats supposed to be late 70s!
