Im learning!! No Im happy!! It's not a value thing, its just trying to kit the kit back to original if possible, ( I like things neat :))
There is no sticker that Im aware of on any toms that says Fibreglass, but its a fibre glass of somekind, its brown and thin, you can see its a fibreglass stuff of some kind
I cant believe my mate told me fibs!! He said Phil collins used the same kind of kit on In the air tonight!!!
Anyways, (Im gutted now!!) OK couple of things then, if the toms are fibreglass, what would the floor and bass drums be made of? and is the kit still common enough to try and get the last remaining toms for it?
Hmm, I wonder......no sticker and brown on the inside....?
The "Wood/fiberglass" drums are almost white on the inside.
The "fiberglass shells" are tan coloured -light brown.
Hmm... I know that "Pearl also made shells in a different material called "Phenolic shells", that is a material that is usually used in board for electronical circuits, like the ones you have in your amplifier or computer.
I dont have any drums made in this material but i will post post a few pictures of the "Wood/Glassfiber" and the "Glassfiber shell" so that you can compare my pictures with your drums.
-Be patient, it may take a few hours.

That color is called silver satin and, when new had more of a silver appearance. As they age they tend to get a golden or champagne tinge to them as you have noticed. I posted in another thread about the 6-8-10-12 concert toms that I have in that color. They are maple and not phenolic however.
As to Phil Collins, he did not play Pearl (Chester Thompson did however) Phil did play concert toms though. Take a well tuned concert tom set in great sounding room, mic the drums and the room, play with a lot of attack, and some non-linear reverb and there you have it! Of course it doesn't hurt if your a really good drummer as well. :-)

I really really appriciate all the info so far, Tnsquint I have sent you a wee message :) The discolour might be the years that the kit was played in pubs and could be nicotine stained??
Fortissimo thanks for all the info, my toms are nearly a reddy colour like a dark brown/red so im guessing they could be phenolic?? and they are the same colour as a circuit board so I think we may have the answer Bowing but the bass drums are near to white so they match up fine :)
You have no idea how pleased I am to get such info :) Im desparate to order the Evans black double oil filled skins, but Im hanging on to see what Tnsquint says then we might have as close to a complete kit as possible!! :) Excited
-Just don't forget to post a picture of your cool drums once you are finished with them!

In the early to mid 70's I was working with the Aussie Pearl importer. We brought in maybe a dozen of these kits to the land of OZ. The kit was generally known as the "Dyna Family". The kit was a mix of the Fibreglass concert toms together with conventional two head Wood/Fibreglass BD's & FT's.
Also the colour range included a Gold, or maybe Platinum?? Satin as well as the Silver Satin. I think your's is the Gold/platinum colour. Other (Solid) color options available, were black, white, & red.
Somewhere?? in My wifes photo filing system, there is a shot of me behind one of these kits in the gold satin finish. The pic was taken at our wholesale showroom. I'll do a dig for the pic..
Cheers

Maybe they were going for a Hal Blaine thing? He was always famous for using an old Ludwig BD, snare and floor tom surrounded by a cascade of fiberglass concert toms.

Is there anyway to tell the exact age or is it a case of it came from that period?
Promise to post up the pictures once I get all the bits sorted, just chatting to Tnsquint at the moment so I may have got the missing toms, its a case of getting them shipped over, get the black evans Double oild filled skins on, and then un leash hell Jump For Joy
