Olympic Snare a Rare One Folks

oops...I didn't notice the Non-USA Forum so I am copying to correct my mistake.

First and foremost, great website! I recently acquired an Olympic snare and have been told it is one that has hardly ever even been seen. I believe it is a 1960's model 1003. It's sparkle wrap doesn't really match any Premier or Olympic colors. I would describe as possibly lavender or the "ginger ale" sparkle. It is a beautiful snare folks. The coolest thing is it is wood shell and 100% original everything including the stand. It even has original heads. The rarity is the size. It is 14" x 6.50" which I understand to be one of those "never seen" Premier/Olympic snares.

Of course I am curious as to the possible value of this drum and any cool info anyone may know about Olympic and Premier and the 1003 snare. I would love to have the whole kit in this sparkle. I hope my pics will download and thanks to all who read this post. Very cool website for drummers. I am 57 but unfortunately retired from drumming because of health. I do some recording still and manage my daughters band which helps fill the void and keep sane. I've seen the 1003 in the 1967 catalog, although I don't really know about the rarity. It's a fact that most of the wooden models I've seen are 5,5. Now the wrap... it might be a faded Sparkling Gold - there's a 'Lavender' in the catalogs, but it doesn't look like that. You be the judge of that, the link is below. Whatever it is, it's a great drum man :)

thanks all....great info from great people...the more I study this drum the more I want to clean it up and use it with my Gretsch kit...doesn't match but damn, I could see it under the spotlight for a solo!

I have 2 orange sprkl 6x14 Olympic same badge as yours snare drums and they are extremely nice recording drums..very nice!!.Im not sure why yous would be rare, but if it is, congrats. The English made exceptional drums back then.

that is great to know they are killer for recording...damn, now I am thinking of getting into this drum, cleanin it up, new heads, adjust everything and use it for a 5 song session I have to do and the music is one guy with a guitar singin away...but he's good and I agreed to do his tracks...Maybe there's a reason for acquiring this drum, get on my ass and start playing again..

I was holding off from what I have read that the dims 14"x6.50" are sight unseen. I was going to leave it as is, would love to see pics of yours..

Both very nice snares. I too have read the 1003 is on the rare side, most Olympic snares tend to be metal and 5.5". Having a wood, 8 lug 6.5" snare is a very good thing.

I have a webpage showing restoration...this drum has blown me away as far as condition. The Brits really new what they were doing...Not trying to promote anything at all, it's just this drum is amazing as far as every single part and condition.....almost finished...would love to pop new heads on it but going to use original to keep it 100% original right down to the last washer...heres link to restoral...check out the sparkle wrap
