Newbie Here with Rogers Holiday Black Onyx Pearl

Loading...

Hello, I'm new here and getting ready to start a restore project.

I walked into my friendly neighborhood drum shop and what to my wondering eyes should appear?

Almost an exact duplicate of the first drum set I ever had back in the 70's. A neglected set of Rogers Black Onyx Peal. Kick is a Holiday 22, 13 Rack also a Holiday, and the 14 inch floor is a Tower, all is the same wrap. No Snare. I paid $500.00 for them.

No damage to the wrap at all on the toms, kick has a couple very small extra holes in it.

Tom arm is bent.

4 of the Bass Drum Bow Ties need replaced.

I've not taken anything off the drums to start yet.

I'm wanting to fix this kit up and gig on it.

Thoughts on where to start?

Thanks for any and all help.

Peace

Post the tags please, but I can tell the med sized B&B lugs on the tom, put it at 62/63. The floor looks short, maybe the pic? If its 10" its a marching conversion. 14" or 16 deep is correct. I have all the parts you need as well. Yer gunna love these tubs when yer dun. I would keep my eyes out for a 16" floor and let that one go after you find one.

Thanks for your reply. I will take pics of the tags and put them up soon. I know the 14 has a different tag, not a "Holiday" but a "Tower"?

I know I won't need a lot of parts but the ones I need I will have to purchase.

I know on the 14 it is missing the internal muffling mechanism.

I would like to find a cymbal arm to mont off the kick.

I need about 4 bow tie with claws for the kick.

The Arm that holds the tom is bent and probably needs replaced.

I can't wait to get these boys up and running as my band has a couple gigs coming up and I would love to play out with this kit.

What type of heads do you recommend me to put on these?

Thanks for all of your help.

I have the parts you seek. Heads: I would use what was originally on them Remo vintage 2 ply 7.5 mil, but put a single ply 10 mil on the reso. The cymbal mount you want, does it go inside the top of drum? or bass drum hoop mounted type. It looks like I need 4 bow ties with claws for the kick, just ordered two new hoops. The cymbal arm goes inside the mount on the kick. The tom arm that mounts on the kick is also bent. If it can't be fixed I will have to replace that too.

I agree with head selection.

Thanks for all of your help.

Well finally got time to get this project started. Just took off the heads of the 13 inch rack and the 14 floor. I'm posting pictures of the labels of each and of all the various sizes tension rods? What gives with that?

Does anyone know what they are supposed to be?

Also on the 14 looks like it had a muffling device at one time? (Pics)

I have a missing screw on the controller of the muffler on the 13. It doesn't seem to work either?

I want to start cleaning the shells, what do you all suggest I use for that?

Should I take off all the lugs?

I want to get these in good enough shape to gig on.

I would appreciate any tips.

Thanks

Scott
