Looks to me like Maple with 3 plies and a single ply re-ring?

Yes, you do! Good eyes. The re-rings appear to be maple. Looks like they used strips of pre-fab 'molding' for the reinforcement rings! Interesting.John

Ha, the old eyes aren't failing me yet (with help from the coke bottles). Yes, it does look like a standard moulding!

Yeah this drum is a mystery to me, every time I'm close to finnish something goes terribly wrong for some reason, I've restored a couple of drums in my days but this one beats me! Everything keeps falling apart, the snare mechanism broke (the screw broke), the rivets in the in the tuning houses broke, the rim broke, the constant problem with heads, the snare butt can't stay tight anymore, some of the snare tuning lugs rivets broke as well. This is really starting get frustrating. CryBaby

I might add that I am careful with the drum, the breaking has happened over night most of the times…
