Thanks again O-lugs. I am glad you guys are enjoying the pics of the set. There are no modifications to the set, and no holes drilled etc. This set has never been used for gigs, etc.. As long as I owned it. I just kept it set up at my home or parents home when I was younger. I still have the soft cases and it has always been kept in a warm location indoors....I am still unsure what I am going to do about selling it...(I am sure you guys understand the dilema). I really feel lucky to have purchased this set in 1979...... I bought the set and 3 Zildjian cymbals, plus a hi-hat for $400. I still have the 20" ride....

... I think you should sell them.

I can't tell you how much I enjoy my vintage kits. I play every night. When I play or work on the drums, I get real reflective about the music, the crazy 50's and 60's when they were built, the journey they might have taken to me, the hands that touched them, built them, and played them.

When I was younger I was a military helicopter pilot and I was at an airshow doing a static display with an old Huey, I was admiring this WWII B-25 sitting just down the line from us and the old guy sitting with it said climb up and have a seat.

Climbing up and in over that throttle quadrant and sliding into that seat of this aircraft that had so much history became real emotional... yeah it was a machine but it was talking to me... icon from a different time.

That's kind of what I feel sliding in behind my old Slingers... so if your old drums aren't talking to you anymore... I say let'em go.

Not a Guru... just interested..

i would say that those are late 64 or probably early 65. my 65 kit starts with the 8xxxx serial numbers and is date stamped march of 65. mine have the white felt mufflers. are yours red felt or white on the mufflers? and yeah, thats a beautiful kit no matter what you decide to do with them.

Hey, Mike. David is right. Plus, we don't really do the same type of thing that Ned Ingberman does. His appraisal "business" happened prior to all the internet stuff and it's my opinion that he doesn't really know as much as many of the experts who frequent this forum. In my opinion, he likes to buy low and sell high, if that indicates anything to you. He has a lot of cool stuff, but I've never known anyone to do business with him.Things are only as valuable as what someone is willing to pay for it. EBay is a much better indicator of that than Ned is.If you really want to see a clear picture of what your kit is worth, then you could create an EBay auction and make it open to international bids...but make it a reserve auction and set your reserve at 1 million dollars (for an example) and make the opening price 99 cents and then watch what kind of bids you get on it. If, at the end of that "experiment" you see a price that looks good enough for you to sell it, then make another auction -except lower the reserve (or make it a no-reserve auction). If you are getting an appraisal for insurance, then it will give you a better idea of how much to insure it for (with future-value predictions taken into account, too!)Ned's appraisal system is antiquated, in my opinion.

1% fee for eBay reserve auctions...1% of 1,000,000 = 10,000.00???

Nice Outfit, I have the same Kit, 1965, w/matching Downbeat Snare, only in Red Sparkle.

It looks as if someone, at some point in your Kit's past, updated the Rail Consolette to the later "Ratchet" style, since a Kit from 1965, if I'm not mistaken, should have came with the earlier "Clock Face" R.C. Does the Clamp on the Rail Consolette have the Script Logo, the same style as on your Bass Reso Head, or the Block Logo??

The set has the red felt mufflers, and the Logo on the clamp is in Block letters....You know the one where the L and G connect across the bottom of the name Ludwig...........

Mike, someone upgraded that Rail Consolette when the newer, "Ratchet / Sunburst," style came along a few years after your Outfit left the Factory, which is not all that uncommon. The very first version of the Ratchet style had the Ludwig Script Logo followed up shortly after it came on the scene by the Block Logo stamped clamp, which is what you described..........

It has been my experience on Kits that have been "upgraded" that the Mounts have also been done as well, which effectively changed those inner parts from the narrower "Ring Style" to the later "Ball Type" that gave more bearing surface on the knurled / splined portions of the parts they held in place............

Hey guys. Sorry for the long delay on my decision, but I have decided to sell these drums. I wanted to get my appraisal first so I was aware of the worth of the drums. Rob Cook did my appraisal, and I was very happy with his expert opinion. You guys on the forum were right on the money with his figures...He says I could get around $ 4,000. I will consider all best offers..... I want to extend a Big thanks to all of you for the advice thus far....
