Mystery snare - what is it?

I didn't know whether to put this in the USA or non USA section. Look like Ludwig imperial lugs but European T-rods. And what would that cable be for? Looks like a bit of a project whatever it is.

Those are Imperials alright, just not familiar with the shell at all. Die-cast hoops, the entire drum is probably very old and made of brass. I'd scoop it up! It shows all the signs of a quality drum.

How much is it? If you'll ship it to me, I'll buy it!

That is one strange looking snare. What's on the other end of the cable? That may be a clue to what it's for, but it looks original to the drum.

Good luck with this one.

Your drum is a mystery to me, ..but there were Pearl snares made in the late 60's w/ almost perfect Imperial lugs, & some early Sonors had an Imperial lug.

I got the auction house to send more pics. It's a Beverley dual and it's in rough shape. And here it is http://ukdrums.weebly.com/beverley-1905-79.html

So should be in the other section after all

Hmmm, a Beverly, then someone must have replaced the original lugs with Imperials at some point. The cord looks like it was intended for an internal light bulb or heating element for calf heads. That dates the drum to before the 50's.

My money still says it's a brass snare drum. Not many aluminum drums made before the 40's and that's an old one!

The Imperial lug that Sonor used up to the mid-30's was a shorter blockier version. When Ludwig copied it in 1936 , their version was originally a longer blocky type and then by 1937 had gone to one with a bit of flare at the upper and lower ends. Both Sonor and Ludwig in the time used square heads on their t-rods. This version has a pronounced flare top and bottom.

The Imperial lug was also used in Britain but I cannot find anymore a reference to that. This drum looks British to me; especially with the really long slot heads. Possibly the threads on some of the parts might give a clue because for sure it would have some B.S.W. or B.S.F. threads.

I had an old Beverley dual once - wood shell, half the lugs were replaced or missing as they are poorly made. It's 30's and will be a brass shell.

I've read on here before, that Beverlys were made at the Premier factory, with the quality being similar to Olympic. This one looks like it would be quite a challenge.

Good luck with whatever you do.
