Mystery Drum...Leedy? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

the hardware is not what I have a problem with, the shell I have never seen on a leedy nor the vent hole groument and the size are you sure it's a 10" and not 12"?, and I own quite a few leedy drums,

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

The earliest reference to the strainer was in the 1914 Leedy catalog. The strainer is shown on the Multi-Model snare. My gut tells me that your drum is pre 1920. My gut has been wrong before though.

There is a patent date right on the strainer....what does it say?

Now that I think about it......I had some very early WFL's (late 30's)toms that had that same inside.

I did some look`n on this site and like VM2k says,..the groumet in the shell don`t show up til what I found to be the 30`s Spartan 3ply with the utility throw off, and the Relience 2ply with utility throw off !! Don`t know if those were floating snares though !!

I guess the wing nut and paw type rods were the norm up til the 30`s

Note the utility strainer !!

This drum is 1916 Leedy

I will say this one has a groumet in the vent hole, but not it`s badge cuz no Leedy badge has a groumet until the 30`s

Huh. Do you possibly have any old pics of those interiors? That sounds like it could help determine if this is indeed a Leedy made drum. (wich IMO I highly doubt, and I'm surpised it's being questioned...) I think they just might be the classic mahogany with re-rings, because correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think WLF, or Leedy for that matter, used luaun in the 20's/30's.

WFL Drum is LONG gone.........

Why do you think it is Luan?

I've seen Luan since the late 60's(Apollo drums etc),and this and the WFL I had didn't look like that.

More of a whiteish color, not gold or straw like Luan.
