I have a friend that plays his bongos with brushes at a acoustic guitar circle. The whole point is not to project to much sound and overpower the acoustic guitars. I had 3 of the heads already that came on a cb 700 kit I aquired with a bunch of other stuff. The cb 700 had fiberskyn as resonamt heads and renaissance heads as batter heads. The heads were worth more than the drums. I got the roto toms from the same guy.
He had a brand new set of remo pinstrip for the roto toms. I put those on my kids drums I built. I ended up buying one head. What else can I say, except, that I'm a phsyco! lol
i can see what youre getting at - but rototoms are almost useless without projection. The rototoms (played by brushes) would be a nominal volume with normal heads as well. Just saying - thats a lot of money for calfskins, especially since you cant really dig into them in any other situation since those heads are so soft. Why not just use calfskin heads on normal toms? Im not trying to bust you - just sparking converstaion I guess.
