Not really, just decided to keep these babies, but I did change it up a little. I put black dots on the toms and put the rack on a snare stand. I had no choice, it resonants better on the stand, especially with the black dot heads.
I really like the sound and feel of these heads, totally different than the coated Ambassadors. I may get some for the snare and kick.

Apparently, you like the vintage 50's/60's look of the drums, but want a 70's sound. What's next? Removal of the resonant head on the toms and bass drum? They're your drums. If that's what you want, knock yourself out.
Changing your heads seems like the thing to do to see if you can get the sound you are looking for out of a set you "really" like before moving on. If the new heads don't give you what you are looking for, you still have some fairly fresh heads to try on another set if you like. I don't see how you lose.
I like the sound of both coated Ambassadors and the black dots, they're just different.

I have the same tom mount on my kit, and yeah, I was looking for ways, other than a stand, to increase the lost resonance. I don't think the tom suspension systems will work with that mount, at least the ones I looked at.

I agree for the most part, although I'm not a fan of seeing the tom mount on the BD sit unused either. Looks odd to my eye.
Pearl makes a pretty cool, unobtrusive suspension system that I like, but it won't work on our mount.
I went back to using the rail, but kept the black dot heads, drums sound fantastic.
