I play with my drums fairly wide open on my rock and blues kits. The jazz kit is birch and I use Evans Ec2 coated heads. But if I need any dampening I still say tape loops are the best. Easy, fast, cost less than a penny, adjust to any size, stay on the drum in the cases.
If you want gadgets or like spending money buy one of the various muffling toys, gell included, but tape (I always keep a roll of gaffer tape on hand) Is really the best!! I think.
Does that ad say "6 dozen per pack"?
That's a lifetime supply for $8.00. LoLoLoLo
Moon gel is my #1 fav damping product. The only way that I know of is the way it is sold in the can 4 pack. I have a question how are you wearing them out ? I have cans form 10 years ago and they are still going strong, keep the gels clean with soap and water they last a very very long time.
I wish Moon Gel would package thier product in a flat container insted of the can.It would fit in my stick bag more easily.
Also if your moon gels get bent out of shape or dirty, I wash mine with dish soap and pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds and they flatten right out.
A tip:
About 6 months ago I got sick of taking the moon gel on and off my Acrolite every time I use it.
So I put just enough black paper tape over it to cover the sticky side and edges. Tape touches the head about 1/4" around the gel. You could probably use white masking tape or painters tape as well, but I haven't tried it.
Does not affect the sound any more than the moon gel alone and it hasn't fallen off or been gunked up yet. Will save you from losing / washing them too.
