MIJ snare strainers

I thought it might be a good/interesting idea to try to catalog some pictures of all the different MIJ strainers. Please, if anyone has some pics of other strainers, post them in this thread.

The first two here are Star units, the other two are Pearl made.

Star Model 940 Super Strainer and 941 Fast Tension Butt Plate-2 examples.

COS Model 8354 8 lug Sonor Teardrop style lug Star designation Type "G", #923 snare lug, round blue badge "Made In Japan", no other name badge, no indication of year, spans approx 6 year models in this configuration.

Blue Sparkle Majestic, likely 1968 year model, 9 ply shell, no re-rings, 8 Slingerland Sound King style lugs, Star designation Type "A", #921 snare lug.

The 4 point strainer, above, in the first set of pictures, was last seen cataloged in the 1966 catalog. It is a an exact copy of a late 50s-early 60s Rogers student type snare strainer. Likely was discontinued because the throw arm is rather thin and easily bent. That said, it has a certain mojo that I like, I have 2 examples of this strainer, both work perfectly, holding tension as if it's life depended on it, although they are scratched pretty badly by who knows what.

Here is an advertisement for the Rogers snares, see the Banner model:

Rod, would you mind taking the cover off and shooting it nekkid? I have one of those in pieces and need to see how it goes back together.

If it is Bolero, it is indeed an early one as Star would be the owner of record for the Bolero name. It is not a stencil, rather a spec line, sort of like the Star and Drum Mate offerings later in the production cycle.

Grantro, would you mind posting a pic of the badge on that Bollero snare? I'd like to see it. I didn't think Star ever used those mini Sound King lugs. I'm wondering if Bollero might be one of the names that was used by Pearl and Star.

It appears this short lug was used by both, B~ I have seen it on Star kits recently. The murky waters of MIJ parts get cloudier today...The reason I know it is a Star is because it was the oval brass badge with "Star" or "Royal Star".

lewilson:

I took your photobucket shot and moved it here. It's always best to put the pix here on this site so they don't sneak off someday. I hope you don't mind.
