MIJ Fantasia Pearl....yes!

From surfcollector

Holy crap! I thought my Fantasia kit was cool, but your kit is killer! The Club Date style lugs look sweet with that wrap. The straight floor tom legs are cool, too. Never seen that before...Looks to be nice quality.Nice score...I hope you got a great deal from someone that didn't know what they had sitting in the attic! Mine is made up of two sets of orphan shell...the bass and floor tom wrap match (looser, blocky design) and the snare and rack tom match (tighter, whispy design)...I don't know the value, but I'd say you can easily get top dollar since it looks complete and clean, it's a five piece with matching snare, original hoops with inlay in tact, mufflers, and again, the Club Date lugs are awesome....I'd say that is a one of a kind kit...so far...Not sure, but wasn't Kent made in the US (Jersey or NY?), at least, at one time?

Cant believe Im looking at another kit like this! How great is that?!?.....Thats a great looking kit surfcollector!....

My Fantasia also has a whitewash on the outer shell, under the wrap. There are places in the pearl finish that I can see wood grain painted white underneath, but you gotta look hard...I think maybe that was common for certain finishes...

(I have a black and white onyx tom that is actually black and CLEAR. The white color is the painted shell that you see through the clear part of the wrap)

As for your hardware, it looks to me to be Pearl. I have not seen that double tom mount before, but the collar mount on the bass drum looks just like one I have, taken from a ZimGar (Pearl). That ZimGar was also a Club Date style and the lugs I have look identical to yours...

Any hardware experts out there?

If it is a Pearl, then what is the Kent connection?

Just found this from a Kent history page:

"During the 1950’s and 60’s, Kent drums were constructed of two-ply maple shells, providing a very thin and resonant shell, similar to Gretsch drums of the same period. These maple shells varied wildly in construction quality. Some were beautifully finished inside, with true bearing edges, while other drum shells were crudely assembled, with dark brown glue smeared on the inside and virtually no bearing edges. At some point, towards the end of the decade, the shells were being imported from Japan and were no longer made of maple. By the early seventies, the Kent company was selling only Japanese drums that were probably made by the Pearl Company of Japan."

I think what makes this kit even more rare is the fact that you don't see a lot of complete Kent kits out there, if ever, in this condition with that wrap and lug set up...Super nice score...

First of all WOW!!!! nice set.Now the run down on the set.The set is made by Star not Pearl. If you look at the strainer, muffler knob on the snare these were made by Star.On the bass drum the double tom mount, the plates on the mounted toms, the mount on the bass drum with the "T" screw again are Star.Even the bass drum pedal is a Star made model.I have never seen a club date 5 piece set in Fantasia Pearl.I have seen other sets with double lugs but they have always been 4 piece sets.So yes your set is very rare to fine i would say it would sell for 500.00 and maybe more in the states. With the hardware on the drums it would date from 1970-72.Why the set is missing the badges is that it was made by Star but sold by Kent in the states. Also why the white paint on the outer shell under the finish is because the finish is very thin and would show the wood of the outside of the shell. If you could post a better photo of the pedal i have the few parts that i see you are missing...Mikey

Ok....great info....thanks. I thought they were Star, but was looking for confirmation on that. I do believe I have the parts to complete this pedal, just gotta figure out how to remove and reinstall those pins, without damage to the pedal. Just needs the strap and clamp, which I have.

Thanks again for helping me out......
