MIJ Fantasia Pearl....yes!

Loading...

I posted this of DFO too, hoping to get some help with these.

Im not really into mij drums, but I saw these this past week and HAD to get them.

Im hoping some MIJ experts will chime in and share as much info as possible to help me understand the builder/date/etc. Heres what I "think" they are....Star drums(Tama) build for Kent in the early 70's. There are no tags, but every single head(top and bottom) says Kent on them. Lugs and everything else indicate MIJ. Shells are 6 ply with grey interiors and all the drums have mufflers. Im thinking these are fairly rare, as you never see the Fantasia pearl, especially with a matching wood snare. Sizes are 20-12-13-14, plus the snare drum. They are super nice!

The pearl doesnt show real well in the pics, but it looks like an Abalone or Oyster pearl up close. If anyone can share info, I would be very appreciative.

Now for some MIJ ****....hahaha

Holy crap! I thought my Fantasia kit was cool, but your kit is killer! The Club Date style lugs look sweet with that wrap. The straight floor tom legs are cool, too. Never seen that before...Looks to be nice quality.

Nice score...I hope you got a great deal from someone that didn't know what they had sitting in the attic! Mine is made up of two sets of orphan shell...the bass and floor tom wrap match (looser, blocky design) and the snare and rack tom match (tighter, whispy design)...

I don't know the value, but I'd say you can easily get top dollar since it looks complete and clean, it's a five piece with matching snare, original hoops with inlay in tact, mufflers, and again, the Club Date lugs are awesome....I'd say that is a one of a kind kit...so far...

Not sure, but wasn't Kent made in the US (Jersey or NY?), at least, at one time?

I'm pretty sure that STAR only used this finish, so this 'Kent' set was produced by Star.

Here's a link to a STAR catalogue (page 2 shows one in this wrap):

http://www.drumarchive.com/Star/

Maybe it's rare (or 'very rare' in the US ?), but I know from 3 (or 4?) over here in Germany and Austria.

Anyway, it's definitely a great sounding drumset!

Perhaps Mudjacker will discover a wide beautiful world in MIJ land. When they are set up well, they sound fantastic, and anyone can attest to their beauty. It is not an easy infection to fight off when you discover this stuff for $100.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Mud, if you get a chance, how about some detail shots of the mounts on the toms and bass...and how about a hoop inlay?

Do you know the environment these came from? They appear fairly mint...

Any bass pedal included?

Hey guys, thanks for the nice replies. I am absolutely fired up about this kit. It is very clean(super duper nice) and has the original heads, inlay, etc. Inlay is definitely Fantasia, but looks kinda grey compared to the drums. I did notice the "outer" plies on the drums have a white sealer. I wonder if this is meant as a backing color for this wrap and that is why the inlays look darker....? I can see the white sealer between the top of the wrap and the bearing edges.

I did get a bass pedal, hi hat and snare stand with the kit. The bass pedal is broken, but I think I have the pcs to fix it(def a cheapo). Ill snap a few pics of the pedal and mounts and get them posted tonight.

KENT drums were made in New York, but I read that they farmed em out the last few years(early 70's) to Japan, which may explain. All the heads(top and bottom) are Kent heads and barely played(bottoms are like new). There is newspaper inside the bass drum, dated 1974. These came out of an attic and were supposedly up there since the 70's(I believe it).

Im actually surprised. These seem to be pretty decent quality, not the crap that everyone claims these types of kits are. Edges look nice, drums tune up well and they look great.....so what else is there?....right?

Stand by for more pics......
