Thanks everyone! My daughter is in middle school and has been playing about a year. The shells were originally green sparkle but the old owner tried some nasty stuff to remove the white enamel paint and ruined the wrap on the 13" tom. I also think the old owner used this with the bottom heads off as the bearing edges were pretty mangled up. We ended up stripping the old wrap, truing up the bearing surfaces and then cutting new edges. I have a wood shop here so it was not too big a problem. When we bout it it was the shells and a box full of hardware and we went from there. Here's what the floor tom looked like:http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/slingerland5.jpgNotice that the old owner went so far as to use enamel primer too! The kick drum had a thick coat of paint inside and out:http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/slingerland6.jpgHere's another shot of the completed kit from behind:http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/slingerland2.jpgHere's a couple of shots with the heads off. I tried to match that cocoa color inside paint as best I could and spray it lightly:http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/slingerland3.jpghttp://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/slingerland4.jpgNow I just need to find some COB hoops for the bottom of the toms. I was really surprised by how deep and full this set sounds. Better sounding than any modern set I've had. I think I'm hooked!Steve
Steve,
After seeing these pics, I see what you really mean about all the hard work.
You and your daughter have done a fantastic job on restoring a trashed kit
to it's former glory.
Congrats to both of you, well done Bowing
Hope she keeps on playing them and loving them, well done man !!
Cheers Stevo.
