My daughter and I just finished restoring this set. Lots of hard work but fun.
Steve
You've done a great job on those, the hard work has paid off.
Great family project by the sound of it.
Cool kit !!
Stevo.
Steve,
Those came out beautiful. How old is your daughter?
...OK, that sounded creepy now that I think of it.
Wowie Zowie! Those are beautiful! Well done.
That'd be the day my 8 or 6 year old daughters would help clean anything.

GREAT LOOKING kit, Steve! Congratulations to you and your daughter. Your efforts have been well rewarded! It's a shame that we can't see some "before and after" pics of this one. Did you have to scrub the satin flame wrap to get it to look as good as it does in your pic or was it in decent shape when you began the restoration project? Just wondering.
Doggoneit! Those turned out great!
Wonderful job, Steve (and daughter). That satin flame is tough stuff and you've got them looking showroom nice. Congratulations.
Like show room! Outstanding!
Thanks everyone! My daughter is in middle school and has been playing about a year. The shells were originally green sparkle but the old owner tried some nasty stuff to remove the white enamel paint and ruined the wrap on the 13" tom. I also think the old owner used this with the bottom heads off as the bearing edges were pretty mangled up. We ended up stripping the old wrap, truing up the bearing surfaces and then cutting new edges. I have a wood shop here so it was not too big a problem. When we bout it it was the shells and a box full of hardware and we went from there. Here's what the floor tom looked like:

Notice that the old owner went so far as to use enamel primer too! The kick drum had a thick coat of paint inside and out:

Here's another shot of the completed kit from behind:

Here's a couple of shots with the heads off. I tried to match that cocoa color inside paint as best I could and spray it lightly:

Now I just need to find some COB hoops for the bottom of the toms. I was really surprised by how deep and full this set sounds. Better sounding than any modern set I've had. I think I'm hooked!
Steve
Beautiful work~! Those look fantastic. Nice job on the interior too. Shades and density of the painted interiors vary quite a bit.
Glenn.
