Ludwig Speed-Master leather strap?

Loading...

The 1964 Club Date / Combo kit I just picked up came with the original Ludwig Speed Master pedal, but the leather strap is missing. Does anyone here know where I might get a replacement, or have any suggestions on what I can use if an exact replacement can't be found? I've done a little bit of googling and found nothing.

Thanks.

I found a replacement strap through a seller on Ebay that had plenty earlier this year. he has nothing listed currently, but you might try contacting him anyway through Ebay. His ID is pdr429.

Good luck with your search, it took me awhile...

Perhaps PM MIKEY777 here on the forum, he seems to have everything in stock

+1 for Kevins. I used the same ebay supplier mentioned and had great luck fitting the strap on two different pedals and a hihat stand. Good stuff. Of course, you could always go to the leather hobby store (Tandy) or a good boot shop or a hobby shop and just pick up a piece of leather and cut it to your liking.

I gave up on leather when replacing old straps. Not dependable enough. Go and buy a cat or dog collar of the correct width in the pet department of your favorite store, cut to lenght, singe the end, put in holes with a hot nail. I have not replaced a strap in a couple years. And you get your choice of colors!

I bought a cat, singed the end, and tried the hot nail thing. All I got was a fistful of hair and lots of claw marks. What the heck? My pedal is still broken and now I've got an angry cat hiding under my washing machine. Sometimes I question the expert advice on this forum. sheesh.

Checker,

For a player's kit, try a nylon wire tie. Get the thicker size. They come with a screw tie down on the end that can be used to attach it to the pedal side.

Your mileage may very.

I made mine from a leather belt - it wasn't hard. I should have painted it to be original... as I recall they're supposed to be black. If you wanted to be extra spiffy they sell paint specifically made for leather that probably has some flexible agent added.

The red paint for the rest of the pedal is near impossible to stick well... it needs some good primer...maybe red auto primer. I used red paint from Ace on mine and was real happy with the color.

There was one that sold for $42 on eBay recently that was about the most perfect example I've seen so far: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-LUDWIG-BASS-DRUM-PEDAL-NICE_W0QQitemZ190339661848QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintgae_Drums_Percussion?hash=item2c5120c018 although the ones I've seen came with a felt beater.

I've attached some pics of that one.
