I would at the very least go take a look at them, maybe offer a grand. He may counter with $1,200 if he really wants to get them sold.
Burgundy sparkle is a relatively rare and sought after finish among the Ludwig finishes. The asking price reflects that, although the seller may well be open to negotiation.
if the bass is a real virgin that adds to price, missing hoop takes away, also looks to be missing muffler on floor tom.
if bass is re-wrap, very unlikely the kit will match in color.
if it is not re-wrap i'd say a fair price.
At that price, it may be a little steep if the bass drum was rewrapped, which i think it may have been, seeing as how it appears to be virgin, which is another rarity in itself.. I'd offer him $1000 and see what he says.. If he accepts your offer, then you've got yourself a good deal for a 3 ply 60's, rare sparkle Ludwig kit..
The virgin BD was my concern as well. The OP said the BD was rewrapped, but there is no mention of it in the ad. If it was rewapped, I'm guessing she ain't no virgin. :) In that case even the $1000 may be high. Remember it's also wearing incorrect hoops. As Zenstat points out, burgundy is rare, but if the BD is not original, I would think the price would drop considerably even though its a rare color. The OP wants this to be a players kit though, so none of this may matter. It looks very clean and may be worth it to him even for $1400.
The two toms are "root beered" a bit (looking a bit more brown than burgundy due to slight yellowing) which is almost a universal occurrence with this vintage wrap. The bass drum doesn't seem to have done so ,,,but if it were all part of the same set it should have. That coupled with the unlikely "virginity" of the bass says rewrap to me. I redid a snare drum in burgundy to have a matching one for my set and it exhibits the same difference in appearance. Close enough and certainly gig-able but overpriced with such a drum in the mix (IMO).
I'm having trouble with the fact the seller has included pics of a totally different red Pearl kit. What exactly is he advertising for sale?? Being in another country, as I am, and not being able to go see it for myself, I'd be very worried that that Pearl kit would be what I'd find in the box instead of the Ludwig I'd've been waiting for!
Price seems okay to me, but there are greater minds here than mine! After all that's been said though, I agree with offering $1000 and also be prepared to walk away. Hmmmm
I just noticed something. Is the seller using an American flag like a towel to dampen the BD? Just realized you can see it through the head on the first picture. While I'm a super patriot type, that just seems wrong to me.

I was going to mention that, as well as the BD not matching the inlay in the BD hoop [hoop is likely original given the dings in it], but then the rack tom appears quite purple in the 3rd pic, so I kept quiet. :)
The OP suggests a BD re-wrap - if and when he comes back we'll know for sure...probably he bought the drums and is too busy playing them. :)
