The idiot who installed that Pearl mount deserves to be slapped hard with a heavy ride cymbal.
It's a wonderful find none the less and I'm very much looking forward to new photos of restoration process!

The badge has not been moved.. what the idiot has done was to cut 4 inches off the front of the shell... see the original lug holes just behind the hoop.
Would this kit have had rings in the shell??
Huge resto on the BD...

yes. that would be a three ply shell with re-rings.

Well.. it will be an interesting look inside...
(Maybe the shell had some severe damage and this was an attempt to salvage it)

Badge wasn't centered very well, was it!
Thanks for the responses crew. As I said its going to be a big job, but really happy with the find!
I thought myself that the bass looked like it had been shortened. I've looked inside and there looks to be re-rings on both sides. I'm just about to head out for a few hours, but when I get back I'll be pulling the bass apart and having a good look inside.
I'll post some pics of that too.
Cheers!
Don`t forget the majic numbers !! I can`t imagine what made those lug holes and footprints to the right and left of the badge at the same height !!

I will make a prediction-the metal rim of the head was used to keep the hoop from rattling-no front head. But they moved a lug.....ugh....couldn't they have just centered the Pearl mount,or better yet not installed it at all?Certainly a worthwhile project-
First off, congratulations on a great find! It's a crying shame about the horribly molested bass drum, but other bits of that haul are shining stars! The hats, that floor tom, and that Jazz Fest... OH that Jazz Fest! Be very happy my friend... A score like that would have me grinning ear to ear!
As for the bass drum, do what you can with it to pretty it up. If it were me, I'd keep an eye out for an orphan drum with some missing hardware or even a full shell as a rewrap candidate. Whatever you do, just don't get rid of that original shell (well, what's left of it). Either way, in the end you'll have an awesome kit and an awesome conversation piece!
