Ludwig Find

Hi guys,

During the week I was told of an old Ludwig kit that was not being used and had been sitting in the same spot for years. Yesterday I went and checked out the said kit and found what is in the pics below.

As you will see there is A LOT of work needed to get them restored but I'm keen to give it a good crack! The Bass drum(22), Rack(13) and Floor(16) all have the exact same date stamped on them (Oct31 66) while the matching snare has (May8 67). The bass drum has had a double tom mount added as you will see which is a shame but I"m hoping can be returned to its original mount etc. The rack has also been made to fit the later installed mount. There was also a 12" BO sky blue pearl tom with the kit (not pictured).

As an added bonus the kit had its original speedking pedal, and some alright premier straight cymbal stands/hh stand. On the hh stand was a set of 15" Paiste black label 2002 sound edge hats in fantastic condition, just a little dusty. That I thought was a RAD bonus to the find!

Here in Australia you don't come across much in the way of vintage gear so I'm happy with the find, (until i get to the US next year and search around for gear there Cool1 ).

Ill keep posting some pics as I go and I'm positive I'll be asking for some advice as it's my first full restore. (wish me luck! ha)

Cheers n Beers!

Shane

Excellent find there bud! I think odball is right , the badge on the bass drum is too close to the edge and the lugs are offset, weird. But even so it is one heck of a find for you, I love Ludwigs too! Those look like they will polish up really nice. Please keep us to date, love to watch others progress. Golly, I wish I could find something like that!

And,the guy moved the badge up front when he BLASTED the horrid PEARL mount into the BD...

Not arguing here in any way but how could you move the badge, groment and hole forward? Wouldnt there be a hole where it used to be? Or, did the horrid pearl mount cover it up???? What ever the case may be, wish they were mine!

Just wondering,
