Ludwig Downbeat / Keep - Sell - Part? Help Please!

Loading...

OK...so, some years ago you were fortunate enough to purchase a 1968 Ludwig WMP Downbeat kit (20/12/14) at a more than reasonable price. Except for some surface rust on the rims of the toms, it's in really clean condition, both functionally and cosmetically. The prior owner, a jazz drummer, had an extra Ludwig rail consolette mounted on the bass drum so that, when desired, the kit could be played with two rack toms. Other than two small holes located vertically above the keystone badge on the bass drum shell, which are covered (one with a Ludwig metal washer), there are no extra holes in any of the shells and the original WMP wrap has faded evenly on all three pieces.

You've now got a choice of selling the kit "as is", parting the kit out, keeping the kit "as is", or keeping the kit and hoping that you'll be fortunate enough to find another 20 inch bass drum WITHOUT any modifications with a serial number close to those of the current pieces (648651 / 648606 / 646807).

Based on the pics that I've provided, what would be your choice?

THANKS in advance for your input!

Sell them as a kit. Do not part it out. The serial numbers are matched.

Nice-looking kit!

Keep it or sell as a whole.

It'd be a dang crime to part it out.

Now...may I ask.....do those 2 extra holes really bother you that much ?

I mean...that is a CHERRY ol' vintage kit.

Great looking set, dont part them out. As some one who's been looking to buy, nothing ticks me off more than seeing a great vintage piece on ebay broken down into 4 different auctions.

Yup...the number of complete, intact vintage sets which have been parted out just to make a few more buck$ on eFlay....is an absolute tragedy.

Man...haven't we seen 'em all.....?

PLEASE do not part that kit out! That would most certainly be a tragedy. First double consolette I've seen and I rather like it!!

I hope that you do not part it out. I also hope you don't sell it to some ass who will strip it and sell it for parts. There is a buyer who will pay you top price for this and either use it, or keep it as an intact set. IT breaks my heart to see beautiful drums stripped by these horses' asses on EBay just to make a few extra bucks. I would get a good appraisal and sell it for top dollar.

Is this set for sale, if so, how much? Is the snare a DownBeat? Thanks, Steve
