I never pay the asking price...unless I find something that's exactly what I'm looking for. So, if he wants $400.00, then he probably knows he'll have to entertain offers that are lower than his starting price. Therefore, I would do the old stair step thing -where you iffer him 200 and he counters with 350 and then you say 275 and then he says 325 and then you say 300 and then you give him 300 and come back here to show them off to us!Party
Ludwig Club Date ? 100.00?

either that, or he'll hang up on you when you offer 200!DOH

Well I did start at 100.00 and have worked up to 350 but I still have not seen them. Ya I watch Pawn Satrs, I know the game. I also own my own business and people are always trying to get me down on price and sometimes do when work is slow. So my plan is to go there and go back down to 300 with cash in hand and see waht happens. My biggest problem is my experience in buying these really old drums, I dont really know how to value them on the spot. So thanks again it sounds like 400 would be OK but hope for 3, 350? Again all of us (including myself) are basing this from a photo taken with a cell phone. Still worried about getting parts, he says they are all over EBay, but I am not finding them. I have seen really nice complete clubdates in excellent condition sell for only 800 on ebay so I do question his 400 price with parts and possibly a floor to missing.
How do you tell difference between a clubdate and combo, does it say on the drums?
Thank you!

Since it's not your intention to make big bucks on them,.. Go get' em boy,...!!!
This is a beautiful set with an absolute gorgeous finish !
As posted before,... that Jazz Festival alone is worth it!
If that wrap is in OK condition, it's a good investment and it will clean up nicely.
My Combo was in a terrible condition and this is what some elbow-work did.
Above all,... you will be dazzled with the sound of it and most probably will never find anything like it again!!!
Good luck !

"Club Date" is referring to the fact there is only one central lug with long T-rods in stead of 2 lugs with shorter T-rods like on most other drums.
It was Ludwig's answer to the demand for more economical "student" drum-kits.
As a result, the drums are slightly lighter and easier to travel with on the road. Some people even claim that the lack of the extra hardware screwed to the shell results in a better sound ! (I wouldn't know as I still need to get my hands on a regular kit). "Combo" just means that there is a floor tom missing. I hope I'm correct here,...!
Ok, I cannot thank everyone enough. I think I will buy it even at 400. I will post better picks of it later tonight. Thanks again, I will be needing some advice on the restoring process next. Thank you so much, I hope that I can soon be the one that helps someone else out!
Thank you!

In my opinion, they arent worth 400$ without the floor tom.
Folks are getting vintage crazy. Its still a low end 3 piece set!! My MAX would be $325.
Most welcome,... and the seller was right about those spare parts,... they are quite easy to grab on Ebay for a decent price.
Please post pictures before your trip,.. you managed to get us all very excited !
Good luck
I certainly will post pics, going to get them now. Look for them tonight. Thanks again!!!!!!
Thank you!

I think you are getting a great deal even if they are in only fair shape. If that is indeed a Jazz Festival snare in good or so condition, you have a VERY good deal.
Looking forward to some pics when you get them !
