I must have missed the boat on your restoration, how did ya' get the old wrap out of the lap joint in the shell?

I have a '64 that I would like to put back to original ( the originallity value is already gone as it has modular mounting hardware) and I always figured rewrap was out of the question.

I like Drums...

Only the floor tom had the lap joint in the shell. It's quite impossible I believe to remove the wrap in the shell without jeopardizing the woodwork. I made a clean cut where the wrap enters the shell and sanded it. When I re-wrapped it, I started at the wood-joint and gave it an overlap of about an inch.

I didn't make pictures during the process but if it would interest you, I can send you some of the finished product.

The bass, 12" tom and snare came as Duco so no lap joints to worry about.

The issue here was the diameter. i didn't realize that Duco's are wider and the extra thickness of the wrap would prevent the heads form sliding on.

When I re-wrapped them, I stayed about 1/3 of an inch from the edge,... worked out very well.

yeah I figured you'd have to cut away the wrap, I also have a Leedy duco that I thought about recovering but was warned about the fit. anyway I think your pics gave me the kick in the pants to get back to my clubdate.

Intead of getting anothe project drumset maybe it's time I finnished my FIRST one.

by the way it's I belive a 64 clubdate in silversparkle 12/14/20 came with an no serial supra 5x14. I have the original consolette a stripped tom bracket, two sets of spring clip ft leg brackets but only one spring and lever. came with a speedking, a grocery bag of tensionrods brackets and stuff and a "spare" rogers script cob powertone snare, which I traded away years ago. got it all for 40.00 from my highschool when I was 16. the school district receipt said "old broken drums"

my highschool actually discontinued their music program the year I started there, all the woodwind and brass instruments were given to the other schools other than a couple of beatup Souzaphones, but they left all the drum stuff, oh and an upright bass, and a Rhodes keyboard, coulda had a wicked jazz band.

Hey Clubdate64...not so sure the the Club Date outfit ever came with a Supra (feel free to correct me otherwise, fellas). From what I can tell in the Ludwig book by Rob Cook, it should have come with a 5x14 matching wood snare from 59-65 and then an Acrolite sometime in 66. I know everything coming out of the factory in those days could have been mixed/matched or special ordered, but just some food for thought. But if you have a non-serial Supra...sweet!

BTW...awesome job on the resto, Stedi!

Yeah everything points to the snare not matching the kit, the snare is pre serial and the kit is from 1964. when I got it I figured the snare went with the kit because it was the only "ludwig" left behind, there was a couple of WFL 12x15 gold sparkles, a Continental 5x14, a cb700 5.5x14 and a Rodgers powertone which was part of a holiday kit 12/16/20 in bdp (they would'nt sell me the Rogers set)

anyway, one of the first clubdate sets I had ever seen was a silver sparkle with nickle hardware (mine is chrome) and it had a pioneer.
