One of my favorite local music stores is changing hands and they've had a big blowout inventory clearance sale before the new owners take over. This Kent snare with the nifty case was found in the basement and I scored it for $50. It needs work, obviously; new heads, snare wires, a working strainer and butt plate, as well as a good cleaning, so it'll be a project. I picked up all the parts I need to restore it on sale as well.

But, I thought, would anyone have a Kent strainer in good condition? I'll post in the Wanted section.

Meanwhile, what did the Kent company call this finish? It appears to be rare.

I can't see in your pic the finish good enough to tell you what the finish is . Do you have a better pic ?

Well it is an oyster for sure . They had their own unique Oyster Red and Oyster Blue as well as an Oyster Black that looked like Ludwig OBP or Rogers Black Strata . But from the those pics it looks to be Oyster Blue Pearl though I can't really tell 100% from the lighting .

It's definitely black, unless the finish was blue and it's faded to black. I'll try to take a real close-up photo tomorrow.

Looks like Oyster Black to me. I believe those Oyster wraps were unique to Kent, so that would be a cool score. I have this exact snare and finish - see pic. Kent is a cool entry in drum history. The strainer will definitely be a challenge to track down!

That's exactly what I have. Same color. I thought it was rare. I understand about the strainer. From what I read, they were poorly designed and often broke, just like the one on the drum now. I purchased a Pearl strainer and butt plate that I'll install, and yes, I realize it will cause extra holes, but it's a player's drum and not a museum piece. I have some oyster black that can be used to cover the holes. Not an exact match, but close.

Problem is, I find myself checking out Kent drumsets for sale now. There's a blue sparkle set not far from here.

I think that wrap is kind of rare actually. And yeah, I check them out regularly too - they just have their own vibe :)

DON'T DRILL IT ! There are a few different strainers out there with adjustable mounting points so they will fit any drum . The butt plates are easy to find if you need one .

What brands of strainer are you talking about?
