Just a bit jeolous of this one. I wanted to bid but couldn't because of my current restore. Paul at Buffalo Drum Outlet is the best and I knew if he was selling it, the kit would be outstanding. Dang. I'm happy for you and am looking forward to the pics.

Nice score! I like my Red Sparkle Kent jazz sized kit as well. One comment on the edges - If you want a vintage sound, DO NOT cut 45 degree sharp edges. Round-over is the way to go for vintage mojo. Some will disagree with me, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Fiberskyn heads feel thick and unresponsive to me. I have the med wt 1 ply version. Lots of people like 'em. I don't. I would put some amb or luddy med or a combo of them.

I only have one Fibreskin and it's on an 8" X 14" snare. Sounds cool for that deep, thudding kind of sound. My Kents have coated ambassadors top and bottom on the toms. Sounds great, but you may want to check out the Aquarian Modern Vintage (their simulated calf style) or American Vintage (mylar and slightly oversize).

I had no issues with the Remo's fitting, but if your shells are little wonky, the American vintage might be the way to go.

When i was at steve maxwells vintage drum shop on saturday, steve just happened to be there.I asked him the head question,he said without question to use a remo skyntone on the snare! great on vintage drums, sound close to calf skin skins and his customers love them! so i bought one, just waiting to get my kit back from the edges being done to try it out.He said remo is only making them in snare sizes right now 13" and 14" so i guess i will do the aquarian modern vintage or american vintage on the rest of the kit.i am not sure if american vintage is the same as modern vintage, just different sizes? if so thats what i will be using!!Anyone know why it would take 2 weeks to do bearing edges??He said leave them with him around 2 weeks and they should

be done.he is also going to do the snare bed. This is not going to be cheap!right now i figure i am around 225.00 in the cuts and bed,and he said he wanted to change some washers on the lugs and maybe oil and seal the inside of the shells.but he was highly reccomended from someone and just happens to live about 15 minutes from me! I just hope we stay near this budget!! i will keep you updated, thanks, andy

Regarding the heads - American vintage are mylar heads and slightly oversized. Modern Vintage have a synthetic coating (over mylar), to mimic a skin head.

I've not played the Modern Vintage so I don't really know much about them. A friend has the American Vintage on his 64 Ludwigs and loves them.

I'm from Kenmore and I knew Paul from BDO was going to list that set, I own a Champagne Sparkle Kent set so didn't go for them, glad you got the kit, they look nice. I own a Revere light blue pearl set made by Kent, I want to put the Aquarian American Vintage heads on them. The set was made in the 50's and I can't get a Kent head on the floor tom, thanks for the info, Mouse.
