K. Zildjian Constantinople...the worlds most sought after cymbals

From hardbat

Someone mentioned "The Man Who Knew Too Much", so I thought I'd share a picture of the cymbals, easily found on Google:http://cultmoviestars.com/movieoftheweek/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/mmm.The-Man-Who-Knew-Too-Much03.jpg

Thanks posting that photo. I was looking for a film clip of that scene on youtube, but couldn't find any. This photo satisfies me:

These look like 22's to me. And those huge bells are not uncommon with some Constantinoples. Like these 21" Constantinoples:

A pair of 22's like those seen in the movie would be worth a small fortune today. But just try to find a pair like these for sale. You may spend a lifetime just looking.

I know it's not vintage and not in the same category with the pies in this thread but, I just bought a new 22" K Constantinople that weighs in at 2354g and it is INCREDIBLE!!!

The sound is beyond anything I have played.

Maybe one day it will be a vintage/collectable piece.

I know that right now I am loving it. D' Drummer

Well, speak of the devil - there's a 19" orchestral pair up on eBay right now. They seller obviously knows exactly what he has. I hope they are purchased by an orchestral percussionist who can put them to real orchestral use.

Just perfect as a pair of crash rides to use on your next heavy metal death-rock gig.

Those look to be the same cymbals that were posted by agopsalott, a page back. Same "E.F.G." initials.

I have to wonder if they were Fred Gretsch, Sr's personal pair of cymbals, but I don't know his full name.

Never mind, I see now that the description says they belonged to a famous conductor. All I can come up with is Eugene Goossen. It would have to be one of the first two Eugene Goossens, as the third had the middle name "Aynsley".

These are both genuine Constantinople K's. One trademark is a little later than the other but both are from the 1930's.

The Criterion Collection recently restored the original, 1934 version of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (also by Alfred Hitchock...he remade his own film in '56). Thankfully the scene with the cymbals is on youtube. Start at about 5:25 to see the cymbals:

My guess is 16" - 18" K Constantinoples. Also looks like a Leedy snare drum behind the cymbal player. Nice looking gong/tam in there as well.

Unlike with the Istanbul K. cymbals paper labels on the Constantinoples were usually placed on the front side on the cymbal.

Most Constantinople trademarks are not evenly stamped or in some cases entirely complete, but this is probably the best example of one that's virtually perfect.
