Just received my Sonor Hilite

Loading...

Excited, that's an understatement!

She's arrived from Germany! It's here. Already on putting her together sound wise she's left my SS Gretsch in the dust. Although she is a bit of a 90's chunky monkey and the Gretsch's still ooze's classic coolness. Maybe but maybe the Gretschs will be hitting eBay next Sunday eve. We'll see.

Anyway on a slight downer there is wear in the tom mount post. The prism at the top has movement. No way was that designed that way. It's rattling about. Any advice on how to fix before I start pulling it apart please. Your help would be mutely appreciated.

Now back to my teutonic beat machine. Yes!

Congrats! Too bad the classic coolness and best sound couldn't be combined...

For the tom mount post fix, pics might help those of us with a mechanical bent, even if we've never seen the thing before...:)

If you mean to tighten the top prism, then you have to push the lever in to grip the knurled nut, they are spring loaded.. when all tight, you push it in again to drop it down to position.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Love to see a picture, if you have time... just out of curiosity. I'm not familiar Sonor hardware.

Not a Guru... just interested..

Heres a photo of the kit. You see that block on the top of the post that then holds the 2 tom holders, that whole assembly has movement of 8th of an inch. There for the Toms move about and there is a distinct buzz coming from there when I play the bass drum.

From OddBall

The whole prism thing is simple tear down rebuild.

If thats the case is it a case of some worn washers?

I just want to know what Im getting into before I go ahead and start the operation.

Thanks.

Oh and @DownTownFarmer the kit is gorgeous. Stylistically looking at it in the flesh I would say futuristic and up with today's modern drums, if you know what I mean. Considering she's 20-25 years old, the fittings look like they were designed today.

I received an inheritance back in 92 and invested heavily into a brand new kit as part of my journey into being a pro. Stupidly I bought a double bass drum Premier kit. I bought Cheaper so I could buy bigger. It didn't take me long to realise the mistake I made. I think this is more like the kit I should of bought that day. Smaller and more expensive, but this should of been the move.

Ah, hindsight. I should never have sold my Gretsch walnut 20/12/14 kit...:)

Check whether the loose block has fasteners or if it's pressure fitted. I'm guessing pressure fit, in which case shims might work...

If there is 1/8" of movement is there any metal to metal thing going on?.

Sonor were absolutely crazy in RD with Isolation technology in the 90's.. Would not surprise me if there was some sort of isolation rubber inside the prism... Just taking a stab at it....

Cheers
